Does anyone else agree with me that Rings Of Power is better than House Of The Dragon

I honestly don't mean to be contrarian (I honestly can like popular Shows with the masses) and I'm not saying that The Rings Of Power is the greatest Show of all time, and I do prefer the LOTR trilogy overall.

However here's the reasons why I find The Rings Of Power to be a higher quality Show than House Of The Dragon.

And feel free to disagree with any of my points that I'm about to make, it's meant to be a fun debate after all. Hopefully you guys will at least understand some of my points though.

1. More Fantasy content
2. More likable characters (including men actually being likable, who knew)
3. More of an in-depth plot, even to the point where they can branch off to different POV's. Where as with House Of The Dragon it's jumped from Jousting to pregnancies to who Rhaenyra is gonna marry, none of it is very interesting imo
4. I actually feel like I'm watching a Show based in Middle Earth, where as House Of The Dragon reminds me more of Upstairs, Downstairs than GOT.

And on a side note that scene in episode 3 with Daemon trying to be Jack Bauer or Kiryu Kazama is tone wise really out of whack with how the GOT world has been established in the previous 8 Seasons, where the fights were meant to be a little bit more grounded.

I will be fair to Daemon though, he is the only character worth watching in the Show as it currently stands imo.

Out of interest do you agree with any of my points between the two Shows? And if you do prefer House Of The Dragon, why?

I'm going into this blind guessing ,as I've not watched either .

But tbh Rings of power definitely interests me more, and it looks more family friendly . I don't think I'd ever get into House of dragon .

You've definitely got the tone of the two Shows down in terms of the age demographics they're both looking for.

So far for my personal taste, I feel like one Show is giving me a Fantasy world that's slowly bit by bit unravelling in the plot, while the other Show is essentially Downton Abbey with 2 second segments on the Dragons an episode.

It's just I honestly can't tell why anyone would prefer House Of The Dragon? I'm not meaning it to be argumentative towards House Of The Dragon fans, but I'd like to know what they think makes it the better Show.

After all I feel like I've listed very important criterias as to why I prefer Rings Of Power, I'm interested to hear what the counter argument would be.

Maybe it just comes down to personal preferences.,

Some will love GOT others will love LOTR

Many will love both

Oh personal preference will always play a part I agree with you on that.

I loved in particular the earlier seasons of GOT, sadly I'm not seeing any of that quality in House Of The Dragon.

Better storyline, characters, action.

Loved the Lord of the Rings and The hobbit but ROP just doesn't come near to them, the characters are dull and bland, the story is way too slow moving. Visually it's great but it seems like they threw everything at making it look good and forgot about the rest. There was no real tense or edge of your seat moments like there was in HOTD

LOTR was just a painful watch for me. Didn't enjoy any of it, and haven't watched any of the spin-offs.

Fair enough on most of it.

I've got to be honest though I disagree with you about the plot, ROP has the mystery of who is Sauron where as HOTD just seems to be about who's knocking up who.

No

House of Dragons was
better to follow.

Rings Of Power
I watched a few episodes
and something was wrong
it did not work well.

So I gave up.

And tbf Rings Of Power isn't a perfect Show by any means, but personally I just appreciate a Show that actually embraces it's Fantasy genre to the max, and has a plot that's a grade above basic.

Like for me I'm sick to death of Shows like HOTD, Vinland Saga, Blade Of The Immortal & Chainsaw Man where they all come out with really basic plotting that's really easy to follow and think that they're edgy because they either splatter blood everywhere because it looks cool, or there's shipping in the Show to the max.

Tbf I will try to give HOTD a bit more time just to see if anything plot wise actually holds up, but so far I honestly feel like watching Downton Abbey would be better, at least it's intended to be a more basic structured Period Drama.

And I just want to clarify I do like edgy Shows when I feel like they're done well.

And to be a bit more balanced tbf, yes Rings Of Power could do with a bit more action in the Show (after all it is a LOTR prequel) but I do feel like HOTD also has pacing issues, to the point where the plot is there but barely developed imo.

But HOTD aside, I do feel like ROP could do with a slight increase in Action scenes, and I imagine from a shipping perspective the Show could try to add a bit more in that area for Season 2, but on my personal preference I'm actually happy with the level it's currently at, but I could see it being an issue for some viewers.

Other than those flaws though I'm happy with the Show, which I don't say that very often about American TV Shows these days.

i gave up on rings of power too, nothing ever happened. House of the dragon is in a different league

HotD is much more family friendly than GoT ever was

I mean, "Game of Thrones" the clue is in the name, that's what it's always been about a fight to claim the throne, it never pretended to be anything else? I know what LOTRs/The Hobbit are about and it's completely different, as I said in my other post I loved both those series, the issue is ROP has done a piss poor job to make it interesting compared to those and is DULL compared to HOTD

Nicky91 01-11-2022 12:50 PM

i'm not watching rings of power, or anything else from lord of the rings

so i cannot make the comparison myself

i find lord of the rings so boring and taking way too long (same goes for harry potter, also too long for my liking) and it's too ''fantasy'' weirdly, i find game of thrones, house of the dragon having more realism of medieval times and more actors whom i know in game of thrones franchise too (and my bias our stars Carice van Houten, Michiel Huisman ;))
