That’s my joke you’re telling, Ricky Gervais tells James Corden

James Cordon is getting some bad press lately :eyes:

The host said he did not know the joke came from Gervais and did not explain how it came to be in his monologue on Monday

James Corden has responded to criticism that he appeared to copy a joke originally made by Ricky Gervais, saying he delivered it “obviously not knowing it came from him”.

The host of the US Late Late Show gave a monologue during Monday’s episode addressing Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover and told a gag that viewers noted was remarkably similar to one from Gervais’s 2018 stand-up show Humanity.

Gervais drew attention to the similarities in a now-deleted Twitter post.

In the joke, Corden says: “When you see Elon Musk talk about Twitter he does this thing where he goes, ‘Well, it’s the town square.’

“But it isn’t. Because if someone puts up a poster in a town square that says ‘guitar lessons available’, you don’t get people in the town going, ‘I don’t want to play the guitar! I want to play the piano, you piece of ****!’”

“Well that sign wasn’t for you, it was for someone else. You don’t have to get mad about all of it!”

Responding to the accusations, Corden tweeted from the Late Late Show account: “Inadvertently told a brilliant Ricky Gervais joke on the show last night, obviously not knowing it came from him. It’s brilliant, because it’s a Ricky Gervais joke. You can watch all Ricky’s excellent specials on Netflix. J x”.

Gervais defended his fellow comedian earlier in the day after a Twitter user asked if Corden asked permission to use the joke.

He replied: “No. I reckon one of the writers ‘came up with it’ for him. I doubt he would knowingly just copy such a famous stand up routine word for word like that.”

The social media pile on happening to Corden lately has been wild, I genuinely don’t understand it

I've never heard Gervais ever tell a joke. He just insults people.

He's about as funny as 50 pulsating boils on the bum.

it is possible both get their jokes written for them and person who wrote the joke just recycled it?

Ricky is a stand-up performer and writes his own material

Corden is a teleprompt reader and celebrity sycophant so just reads what he is instructed to

There is nothing new under the sun

It's all over him being rude to workers at a Restaurant over the Egg White touching the Egg Yolk.

Obviously people should probably let it go soon though, I mean people shouldn't try to make his life harder with a mob of people harassing him.

And then he said it's because his wife had an allergy but surely if you're allergic to part of an egg you have to stay away from all the egg? It was a weird excuse

Oh his excuse was bizarre to put it politely, and he clearly didn't think that he should have to apologise either.

Despite all of that though, I honestly hope people don't get him to lose his job.

he's always had that reputation for being a bit of a **** in real life and has still managed to get work so I'm sure he'll be fine
