Kansas Prof investigated for 'cultural appropriation - dressed as Michael Jackson
Kansas chemistry prof investigated for 'cultural appropriation after
dressing like Michael Jackson and dancing at Halloween party https://assets.rebelmouse.io/eyJ0eXA...74%2C0%2C0%2C0 Holly O'Neil, who is also the interim assistant dean of the College of Arts and Science, allegedly performed a dance while Jackson's song "Thriller" played, according to the Washburn Review. The fourth annual Halloween party on October 27 where she performed was organized by the English department of the university. Video of the appropriation incident was posted to Facebook but quickly deleted. “Washburn University is reviewing concerns raised about a costume worn by an employee to an on-campus Halloween party Thursday, Oct. 27," Hutchinson wrote. "We are gathering information and hearing perspectives from the students, faculty and staff who were involved and have been affected before developing a response to the situation." she added. "Washburn’s commitment to an inclusive campus community will be an important part of this review process." but mainly we are worried about getting any blame. https://www.theblaze.com/news/hallow...-appropriation YCNMII |

People dress up as celebs all the time fgs
|
There is a wee boy in my local paper dressed as Mo Salah for Halloween
|
i wasn't aware that michael jackson represented an entire race/culture, which he would surely need to do if it were to be classed as cultural appropriation
|
I wonder how many people complaining are even black? America is gone ridiculous with all this stuff, remember how Adele was berated and accused of cultural appropriation for dressing up for Carnival during Lock down? so many actual Caribbeans/Londoners with Caribbean heritage backed her straight away. The US is gone crazy with all this stupid ****

this is the sort of thing that will lead to trump being re-elected in 2 years time

She is wearing a mask and a wig - its not like she has used black face - its a manufactured mask, a Michael Jackson t-shirt. Madness

Launching dumb investigations like this just "overplaying the hand." I'm going to assume BOTS was being midly hyperbolic by saying stuff like this will get Trump reelected, but is the kind of thing which pisses people off and makes them want to support the "other side."
Unless she actually blackened (or whitened, depending on which era MJ) her skin, they're whinging over nothing. |
The real problem is that whoever had the call to investigate was too fearful of blame to say what they thought
"No i don't care if a few kids got their virtue-signalling knickers in a twist this is nothing now f off and go study" Once again fear of blame perpetuates the faux outrage |
Yeah this is silly.
Official meaning of Cultural Appropriation: "The unacknowledged or inappropriate adoption of the customs, practices, ideas etc. Of one people or society by members of another and typically more dominant people or society." I didn't know dressing up as Michael Jackson was appropriating an entire culture? I guess the official definition is wrong and the law is right in this case. I mean this is the same world that had some weirdos thinking that Ghost Of Tsushima was Cultural Appropriation, so there's clearly no helping some people. I'm literally waiting for the day when Pizza Hut gets attacked for Cultural Appropriation, unless it's okay because people get to eat some Italian food from an American company. |

The mask is weird looking , but yeah i don't understand the outrage and no i wouldn't class this as 'cultural appropriation'.
Especially when over the years there's been a TON OF MJ impersonators who have even gone as far as getting plastic surgery, and allsorts to 'look like him' . |
