Are you going to Boxing Day Sales?

I can't really approve of people being made to work on Boxing Day (cousin who works at Next will be there until nearly midnight tonight, and has to be in in Boxing Day at 5am!) it's a bit of a theft of time for those having to be in, especially as retail pay is shyte so they're basically losing their Christmas for nothing...

It goes against my principles to shop on such days, BUT a handful of people not spending their money isn't going to make any real difference to the companies...

No!

arista 24-12-2022 01:42 PM

here it is second christmas day (and tbh for our tv channels it's like christmas the whole week in its programming, no talk shows, more specials and films)

ThomasC 24-12-2022 02:04 PM

The name Boxing Day comes from a time when rich people used to gift boxes of presents to the poor. Traditionally a day off for servants, these boxes would often contain money to thank people for their hard work. They would then go home on Boxing Day and share these boxes with their families.

By the time I get there, the only sizes left are waaay too (but aspirationally) small or life shorteningly big :joker:

I do all my Christmas shopping throughout the year - if I see something I think someone would like, I just buy it. That way my wallet doesn't get abused in December, and I can still look shops in the eye without hurling :joker:

That’s the best way to go about it….I have thought about it myself but over the last few years I feel like I have only just put the tree away before I’m getting it out again…
