USA : McCarthy Lucky 15th ballot win, now Leader of the House

US House in chaos after Republican
Kevin McCarthy loses speaker votes

Three times he tried
but was short by around 20 votes

Tomorrow they try Again.

[On a day of political drama not
seen in Congress for a century,
Republican leader Kevin McCarthy
repeatedly failed in his bid to be elected
Speaker of the US House of Representatives.]

[The House adjourned without a speaker
on Tuesday night - the first time since
1923 they had failed to choose a leader
after a first round vote.]

How can he fail if that's who the people want? Who's running that country, the people or somebody else?

Not a Public Vote

DeSantis seems to be what everyone hoped Trump would be.

That's premature, sure, he's not President yet, but blahh

bots 04-01-2023 09:16 AM

its like the tory party or labour party choosing their leader for the term in parliament. What would be the chances of an mp getting the support of the majority of the HoC at the moment?

True. As far as I know American political parties don't have "leaders", leastways not in the way ours do.

I'm fairly ignorant and indifferent to American politics when it's not funny but isn't their Speaker ssssort ooooooffff analogous to our Prime Minister?

The speaker is 3rd in line to be president after the VP so, constitutionally it is the most senior politician. They basically set the agenda for what gets voted on in the house and what the oversight priorities are.

America has 3 branches of government with checks and balances between them .... Executive (the president and his team), legislative (the 2 houses of congress) and judicial. The same principles are then replicated in each state

Ex–Ohio State Wrestler Says Rep. Jim Jordan Asked Him to Deny Abuse Allegations

Ohio representative and former Ohio State University wrestling coach Jim Jordan aided and abetted in the university's cover-up of sexual abuse within the program, a former team captain said in front of Ohio state legislators on Wednesday.

"Jim Jordan called me crying, groveling, begging me to go against my brother, begging me, crying for a half-hour," DiSabato said Wednesday. "That’s the kind of cover-up that’s going on there."

arista 04-01-2023 04:34 PM

arista 04-01-2023 06:36 PM

arista 04-01-2023 06:38 PM

This can go on for weeks

McCarthy has to stand down from trying
Then the Buggering Rebels can put
