Well I grew up with Steve Bruce as our Manager, so I'll always have a soft spot for him, the same with McLeish.

For other teams though I think that Fergie, Wenger & Mourinho were really iconic Managers growing up.

Obviously Howard Kendall. He actually turned down the England job 3 times. Once after Bobby Robson left, once after Graham Taylor was sacked and once after Terry Venables.

Had it not have been for Liverpool fans getting the English teams kicked out of Europe then he'd have stayed at Everton and probably won the European Cup at least once (that's not said out of any bias, it's a very highly likely probability)

But besides him then it has to be Brian Clough. They'll never be another like him, he was a total one off. I wouldn't say he was the best manager in the business but he was in the top one.

Has to be Ireland manager Jack Charlton, I have some great memories of when I was a kid watching Italia 90

Dogeatdog 27-01-2023 09:11 AM

Alan Curbishley. It was great time being a Charlton fan whilst he was managing the club and I’ll always have fond memories of watching us play in the Premier League against Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpool when those clubs were probably at their strongest.

Can’t believe it’s been 16 years since he left, I was only 12 at the time I’m 28 now :(

From childhood onwards it would be Alex Ferguson.
