Has debating ever changed your mind?

Basically all in the title...has taking part in a debate/discussion about a subject, taking note of others opinions on it ever made you change your mind?

Cherie 04-02-2023 10:01 PM

Nope

Cherie 04-02-2023 10:02 PM

It’s nice to see other people being wrong though :hee:

Kate! 04-02-2023 10:02 PM

Not that I can recall. But it is good to hear the other side.

thesheriff443 04-02-2023 10:04 PM

No

rusticgal 04-02-2023 10:54 PM

Nope….

GoldHeart 04-02-2023 10:57 PM

I don't think it's ever changed my mind as such, i think that would only happen... if i didn't know much about a topic and then was enlightened more.

AnnieK 04-02-2023 10:58 PM

Lol....of course. I'm surprised people haven't changed their minds in a proper debate. I have lots of times...I have listened to the "other side" and actually got it....that I was wrong and I love it. Its not an actual debate unless you have an open mind.....if you don't its argument

Mystic Mock 05-02-2023 04:30 AM

Loads of times.

I always like to think that I'm open to other people's points of view.

bitontheslide 05-02-2023 05:52 AM

it depends what the debate is on and how complex the issue(s) are. I can change my mind on some aspects and not others

Oliver_W 05-02-2023 07:43 AM

I've never been wrong, so why would I

Oliver_W 05-02-2023 07:45 AM

When it comes to politics, I change my mind fairly often anyway  I don't have any real convictions, so I don't care if I get swayed on most issues. The only consistent thing is environmentalism, and that informs a lot of my more solid opinions. But otherwise, I'm fairly open.

LeatherTrumpet 05-02-2023 08:24 AM

yes lots of times

last one was when i made the "trans rapist thread" and slim pointed out that it wasnt a trans rapist but a man rapist who then became trans (to get an easier ride)

actually he just put on a wig and pink clothes but it was more than enough to fool the Scottish Government and the media

But that day i heard a lot of actual trans people say that it was wrong to stigmatize trans people by using the term trans rapist. Anyhoo i changed the title

I note most of the news media did not change!

Alf 05-02-2023 09:09 AM

Brexit was easy, I was always on the winning side of the debate.

Can you name a benefit or improvement you have seen in your area since we left the EU?

Not yet, the losers in the establishment are still trying to sabotage the people's decision.
