[Lilt has been cancelled,
as Coca-Cola rebrands the
'totally tropical taste' drink to
'Fanta' after adverts were accused
of 'cultural appropriation'

The tangy soft drink is being pulled
from supermarkets in the UK after 48 years
Fans of Lilt say the drink has been
cancelled due to controversial past adverts

But others have shown support
for the move, branding the adverts 'racist']

[ 1998, two British Jamaican women
- Blanche Williams and Hazel Palmer - became known
as the Lilt ladies and starred in its adverts]

Quite right. Cancel that culture. We don't want that culture in our country. We may say we want diversity, but we don't really mean it in reality.

Swan 14-02-2023 01:50 PM

They better not cancel Reggae Reggae Sauce, im addicted to that stuff.

Alf 14-02-2023 01:50 PM

Did it turn-out that Blanche and Hazel were a couple of racists then?

Eventually they will have too. Cancel culture comes for everything. They're a ruthless bunch and they have some public support.

Yay, another manufactured ‘culture war’ story for people to pretend to be angry about

The only people angry are the ones so unbelievably sensitive that Lilt now somehow offends them.

Regular, normal people just think it's pathetic. My first reaction was laughter.

I doubt this is related to cancel culture - those adverts were over 20 years ago and no one probably even remembered them till today. I heard this story a few times today talking about the drinks waning popularity and this thread is the first time I've heard the name change being related to cancel culture

It's more likely that the drinks sales have declined over the years and they'd rather bring it under the Fanta name then keep it as a separate brand

No, an accusation of racism has been put forward here.

I think the Police should investigate this and hold people accountable.

I'd imagine they've changed the recipe due to the sugar tax.

Sounds like you only drank it when it was advertised by using racism.

Cherie 14-02-2023 02:17 PM

It’s a drink I loved when I was young but haven’t had it for years, it would probably be too sweet for me now
