Netflix has 'quietly canceled' a woke animated kids' show which features a
bison who comes out as non-binary to its grandmother.

Ridley Jones released its fifth and final season last week, which was not
given any promotion, the show's creator Chris Nee claimed in a tweet.

The two-time Kidscreen Award winner and Emmy nominee series received
harsh criticism online following the release of Episode 8 of Season 5, 'Herd
Day' which centers around a bison called Fred, who comes out as non-binary
to their grandmother - who is voiced by Cyndi Lauper.

Some viewers blasted the show on Twitter claiming Fred's non-binary identity
was slipped into the show's narrative.

Getting upset over a child's TV show? Those said little snowflakes that cry 'woke' every second like they're demented pokemon truly have nothing going on with their lives, do they? Like, you have to be seriously sad to get upset over an NB character or the writer being a lesbian. I almost pity the 'woke' screeching crowd, they lead no mark lives defined by bitterness that's ultimately pointless.

Also 5 seasons is a lot for Netflix, it more likely came to a natural end but that's not likely going to get clicks from gullible people who share this ****.

When BB was on, people came on and posted on the BB forum, argued for 8 weeks and then left, very few people looked in the other parts of the forum or knew they existed, there is not going to be any revival of this part of the forum, there will be a boost hopefully in the BB section that is it

Nicky is largely right on this one, Netflix have absolutely no strategy or "long game" for their shows and if viewership drops they get canned. Purely a numbers game.

Rights, wrongs, morals, lefts aside etc. and looking at it purely pragmatically - it's basically impossible at this point to say that this statement - if flippant - isn't true. It's been demonstrated time and time again. I'm obviously not saying that everything should go Big White 80's Action Hero but I think the evidence is very strong that people are just not interested in ham-fisted forced representation, even those being represented. An awful lot of people will cheer and applaud for it when they see the trailers ... but they still won't actually watch it :joker:.

It's not really about diverse content either - it's also been very well demonstrated that when done right it can be very successful... but people aren't stupid, they know when they're looking at something genuine and diverse, and when they're looking at a DEI department's checkbox list :shrug:.

I think what's unfortunately happening with a lot of diverse TV is bad writers are hijacking the movement to try and score brownie points, instead of what would normally happen which is the Show would get torn apart for being ****.

It's not that Shows with minority characters can't be good, it's the shortage of good writers in Hollywood that's the issue at the moment.

You can't define it sincerely but I still maintain that it's still easily explainable when used with a sense of irony; "woke stuff" is unauthentic, pointed feeling, performative representation with an agenda other than just creating good media and good stories. "Wokeness" isn't in the content, it's in the intention and the execution.

I'd even add the caveat that if the execution is good enough and the writing is on point, it can compensate for clear political intent. When it's written by the unpaid intern at Netflix with an assumption that it'll get by purely by appealing to a certain demographic ... not so much.

How do you translate that to the current SVB banking crisis, which is also being blamed on "woke banks" or "wokeness?"

At that point it's clear that type of person just hates the particular group of people being focussed on if they can't explain why they don't like the Show in question.
