James Bond. Daisy May Cooper cast as the new M.

James Bond has reportedly cast Daisy May Cooper to play MI5 boss M. Daisy shot to fame in BBC series This Country, alongside brother Charlie, playing Kerry Mucklowe.

Daisy's close friend Phoebe Waller Bridge is helping consult over the script for the next 007 flick. “Daisy is a close pal of Phoebe, whose involvement in Bond was such a success that it sparked an unlikely conversation," a source told the Sun newspaper.

Jesus... All we need now is a black Bond to end the franchise forever.

She always looks so damn scary when she’s trying for that sultry look -she is however extremely funny and amazing in This Country series on the BeeB

If they're changing up the whole cast then I can't see the issue with a Bond of any race - it's effectively a reboot. It would be a bit daft to cast someone of a different race in a direct sequel, for obvious reasons. But if they're changing M etc. then it's not an issue?

Bit of a bizarre choice for M I have to say, and at first I thought, well, maybe she's going to take us by surprise and be great and they'll know what they're doing ... ... ... but then there's this:

"Daisy is a close pal of Phoebe, whose involvement in Bond was such a success that it sparked an unlikely conversation"

Which strikes me as a long-winded way of saying "Yes it's nepotism :)"

Why don’t they call him 008 or something ?

It’s always been odd that the character never ages anyway ..

It doesn't really have the same right to it, does it? :joker:

I did always like the idea that 007 is just a designation and James Bond is not the operative's real name... like he might be Jim Smith, but when he becomes a 00 spy he gets a new identity with the name James Bond so that his friends/family are protected.

That way you can have one Bond pass the title (both 007 and James Bond) to the next actor when a Bond dies or retires, and still keep an over-arcing storyline running through the films, and keep some of the same actors if you want (your M's, Q's, etc.). Also means the new Bond doesn't have to look anything like the last, including race etc, as it's quite a generic name.

Wouldn’t it make more sense for the number to increase by one , each time / change though ?

There are other 00 agents mentioned in the books though and there are only 11 00 agents total in the books so they can't just keep increasing the number as it moves to far away from the original narrative

The films were originally based on the books though and so it would look a little odd if they now start adding new numbers to the 00 bit all these years later- James Bond is synonymous with the 007 number. They may as well change the name of the franchise is they move away from 007

She already has - she is half the women she was now.

She has done serious roles and she is very talented, I think it's funny how protective people are of the Bond franchise like it hasn't always been gimmicky and cartoonish in its storylines and characters

Everyone started getting all patriotic and serious about it around Quantum of Solace time. I'm not sure why, they're not even THAT good as movies go :joker:
