tbh as soon as you say you're not going in, they pretty much stop listening anyway, so I just say "I can't come in today, I'm (muttering and mumbling) but will be in tomorrow!"

That way the lame excuse can't be proven wrong

My imaginary dog ran off and I can’t find him anywhere

It's been a very long time since I didn't go to work for no reason. If I want a day off I just book it in

I used to work for a temp agency back in the day and used to just not answer the phone some Mondays

Working in recruitment I have heard every excise in the book. I've had people with short memories who have had family members die mutiple times, sad dogs who need company, people who have car accidents and then are seen driving their intact cars. The worst days are always the day after big football games when hangovers are always illnesses they've been coming down with for days or cars wont start etc etc

I once phoned in and said that my eleven year old back problem was playing up.

It wasn't really, I just wanted the day off.

I gave this excuse as a dare by a mate who was laughing in the background.

An eleven year old back problem is what Skip Donaghue had in the film Stir Crazy. He mentions it in this scene.

We once went for a long weekend up north and I phoned in on the last day to say the car had broken down and we'd had to book it in over night, so wouldn't be back until the following evening. We'd actually just decided to stay an extra day :umm2:.

These days I don't really have a boss or line manager so I just say I won't be available on teams. Usually try to reply to any important emails etc. from my phone.

It wouldn't be a problem unless I started taking the piss with it, in which case I'd probably be called up by a director for a chat. But would be the C.O.O / HR manager first to check if everything's OK and they're lovely :hee:. Worst case scenario I'd get a stern word from the CEO.

Third sector life :flutter:
