Popular games you can’t play

Snooker/pool for me. I’m very talented at what I’m good it (which is an awful lot of things, and I am going to have to blow my own trumpet a li’l. on that one) but I can’t for the life of me navigate a pool table. I don’t mind watching it half-asleep on a Sunday with dinner/supper but snooker … ya, nah. I can’t do it, man.

Tennis and Basketball.

Tennis I'm terrible at serving and returning serve.:joker:

Basketball is a bit more complicated for me, I'm okay at putting the ball in the hoop, but I'm absolutely useless at dribbling.

Mmmmm the only sports I couldn’t master were squash and golf

Anything that requires good coordination. Tennis and Bowling for examples.

I am relatively competent at most sports tbh

:smug:

Interesting.. I’ve got near perfect hand -eye coordination so most things come naturally but squash balls don’t bounce properly and golf clubs are kinda lob-sided so I struggle with the ‘sweet spot’

ME too. I played Cricket and Box at a good amateur standard when I was a younger man. The only sport I'm awful at is probably football. :joker:

Maybe not .. I know they always taking huge chunks out of the local countryside near us ( we have two golf courses fairly close together and they seem to get closer with each passing year ‘

It’s my own fault. Sarcasm doesn’t always translate in the most transparent way over the Internet.

Anyway. As far as sports go I only have a very moderate level of interest in watching football, talk less of playing it. I’ve always been more of a runner and I guess I don’t consider myself bad at tennis but it’s not a game I’d normally play. Absolutely hated rounders but my school insisted on us playing it every Monday and a good chunk of Fridays in Year 6. Cricket’s … definitely not for me. I had to provide captions for all these shows when I was working as a live-unit subtitler at MediaCity but the thing (the sporting half of it) was so boring that you’d wonder who’d be watching these shows with subtitles on at 3 am. You could fall asleep captioning them (not just because of it being in the night; that’s when my shifts were anyway but that was my choice because I’m a night-owl).

The only sport I ever had any real level of ability at was basketball - I doubt I'd be very good at it now, given that I can neither run nor jump :joker:.

I'm OK at pool, in that I can win a few games in a pub and have many many hours of mis-spent late teens playing it. I wouldn't be winning any tournaments or anything.

I can also throw a dart or three (reasonably) well.

Redway 02-06-2023 08:52 PM

I walked up to a pool-table at a parish-club pub. to try my luck (I was quite tipsy at this point) but it turned out it was members’ only (that particular snooker table; there are two) so I had to nip it in the bud. I wouldn’t sign up as an official member with full access to all the facilities just to play pool. It’s not worth it for me. I’m always asked over there if I want to play pool on the other table but I have to decline every time. I’m really not into it like that.

I was dragged to play 10 pin bowls many years ago … I got a strike with my first ever ball !!

Then I went downhill fast .. I don’t think I got any more strikes which is incredible as I’m usually so good at sports ..

In fact all I recall of the night was how much it was hurting my hand and wrist .

I think I was trying too hard and probably strained something early on

Never been back

Now bowling. There’s a game I like. It’s been a while since I’ve done it (probably about ten years now to be honest, and that was in Holland) but I remember always enjoying it and being fairly good at it.

Chess. I know where all the pieces move but I have no strategy whatsoever.

Same .. I can even work out my next few moves but I’ve no idea how you’re supposed to predict what your opponent is gonna do !!!

Quite a few of my family members are involved with The Pytchley, but due to issues with my back+hip+knees I can't ride horses :(

I'm an average Chess player I think.

I used to be a really good Field Hockey player though, especially defensively I was seen as unbeatable back in my School days.

Obviously I haven't played in years, so I'm probably **** now.:joker:

I don’t know how people who look after horses get the strength. It’s not an easy job.

I just loved it….I bought an old PlayStation one with the game but you had to spend another 50.00 or so to adapt it to your telly so we didn’t bother.
Why can’t you buy it and play it on the latest PlayStation…:fist:
