Cramp

Has anyone ever endured the horrible, horrible pain that is cramp?

I got it this morning (as in Saturday morning ) at about 7am, and I woke up literally screaming in agony.

It still aches a little, and is really irritating to walk with. But I get it very rarely (about once a month or two) and it usually isn't too much of a problem.

Is there anybody else who agrees that cramp is pure evil? :bawling:

I get it in the back of my leg alot. The best way to get rid of it is to move the part of your body that you've got it in.

This is one area I know a bit about.

It is not a nice condition to have and I did some research myself a few years ago when I started to get cramps in my legs but I very much doubt your cramps have anything to do with mine! I have a spinal condition which This mean I have less oxygen flowing around the lower part of my anatomy which sometime means my muscles cramp up. It's so painful and normally happens at night. Rubbing the mucle helps but OMG it hurts.

There are a multitude of reasons why you can get cramps though.
You could have a trapped nerve?
You could be laying in a strange postition?
Or you could have low calcium levels?
How old are you? If you're young then generally you'll be fitter and more healthy but the older you are the more problematic your legs can become.
How is your diet? Diet affects lactic acid, too little lactic acid causes spasms in the muscles.
Are you overweight? This can also cause a problem with cramps or make them worsen.
Lastly and the most serious condition is Intermitant Claudication (hope I spelt that OK?) This is when there is a build up of plaque in the ateries which in turn decrease the oxygen going down to the legs. People with this condition have a very serious increase of risk of heart attack and stroke too.

Ways to help cramps - rub the muscle, stretch the muscle, some medications eg., quinine and muscle relaxants, aspirin maybe to decrease the risk of heart problems if you have intermitant claudication?

If the cramps are troubling you then go and chat with your GP. There are options so don't allow them to bother you.

Good luck.

i get it all the time in my calf on a night. i was wake up screaming"!! My leg locks out and you have to sit in agony waiting for it to go off!! i hate it i get it all the time... in my leg, foot, knee and fingers.

It kills.

Whoever invented cramp should be shot...

I used to get cramp in my leg a lot when I was pregnant, I don't tend to get it much now.

Dr43%er 11-07-2007 10:05 AM

I can induce cramp in my feet and toes at will. is that strange. The worst cramp I ever had was in neck/under side of my chin. **** me that hurt. Never knew that mussel was so strong. It pulled my head down so my chin was touching my chest and I could not lift my head.

On the whole you can get aurthuritus in later life if you click your bones alot. Not true. From a random site. One of many.

The Real Deal on Cracking Your Kuckles
What's really happening when you "crack" your knuckles is that you are either pushing the joint back into or out of its normal position. Joints are the meeting points of two separate bones which are held together by connecting tissues and ligaments. A thick, clear lubricant (made mostly of carbon dioxide and some nitrogen) called synovial fluid is found between the bones. When you stretch or pull your finger to get that desired popping noise, you are causing the bones to pull apart. Pressure is reduced on the synovial fluid and bubbles form that quickly expand and then burst - which is why you get that noise.

"Does Knuckle Cracking Lead to Arthritis?
Not everybody's joints crack. Some people have a larger separation between the bones and some people can't relax enough to allow the bones to separate. If you can crack and your mom tells you, you're going to get arthritis, she's just yanking your chain. There is no scientific evidence that cracking your knuckles leads to arthritis. "
