Do people with repetitive mannerisms (almost tics) irritate you?
 

Those repetitive mannerisms can be anything from constant nose-sniffling (one of my pet-peeves) to signalling a sniff by rubbing of the nose (similarly, looks ugly to me) to foot-tapping to constant face-wiping.

All of the above annoy me to varying extents but to touch on ground that I haven’t mentioned a lot before I had a flatmate once (fairly recently) who’d foot-tap loudly all night long and it used to drive my nuts. In general, people who can’t just be and sit still and keep their twitch-game moving all day, every day irritate me. And it’s usually always the same few as well when you’ve been around them enough to at-least recognise their face (in the office, at your local) but going beyond that there’s generally just always a sniffer everywhere you go (not just on buses). Around this time of year hay-fever’s their excuse but come autumn/winter now it’ll be a case of them somehow all having colds despite seeming perfectly well besides their year-’round nose-tics. It’s never anything to do with having too much of a cocaine habit. Just ‘I have a nose-cold.’

No, the only thing that would bother me is a baby crying for a long period of time without a parent trying pacify them.

Not really, I can't really think of people who do something like that, that I'm around for enough time for it to bother me

Some people get annoyed by people with peculiar eating sounds or who eat with their mouths open but stuff like that doesn’t annoy me. The way my mum used to chew gum did really get on my nerves at one point but she toned it down a lot when I had an honest little chat with her about it.

Oh now that does really grate on me, I can't bear the sound of people eating, I always have to have some sort of background noise when I'm eating with people so i can't hear the eating noises

Sometimes I’d be on the ’bus and get so annoyed with people seemingly rubbing and touching up their faces repetitively, only to find out after getting up and glancing at them for two seconds on my way to a seat in-front that they were actually only eating a sandwich or something. I don’t mind the eating noises but anything that looks like someone might be sniffing a lot does my head in straight-up. You’d think that one pack of pocket tissues, sometimes even just the one tissue, (in the absence of chopping off the nose and boiling it in peppery mushroom-soup) would be all it would take to kill all the ugly nonsense from the nose but nah. Some people would rather sniff 9 times a millisecond. It doesn’t bother me anywhere near as much as it did, say, 10/15 years ago but it still gets on my nerves. I don’t know why it’s socially acceptable to keep swallowing all your snot in public and force your hands to make it go through your throat (a more ugly sight than a 10-year-old picking their nose, I.M.O.) but I don’t think it’s right. And it’s always the ones who keep sniffing who hardly/ever get the hint/cue when you ‘politely’ throw a pack of tissues at them.

‘Oh, no, it’s okay. I don’t need it. I’ll just keep sniffing and irritating people instead.’

I wouldn’t call you a people person

I’d call myself a people-person and I know myself a lot better than you know me so I’m not too bothered what you think. You can understand why people do the things you do and still find them annoying.

People are going about getting on with their daily life’s I suggest you do the same

Our staffroom is besieged with people eating their dinner / lunch out of plastic lunchboxes which is bad enough but near the end they all start scraping every last morsel out even when there is nothing left !!

I usually resort to listening to TalkSport with ear phones jammed in ..

It's actually a condition called misophonia, for me it's a specific eating noise, not crunching or even slurping soup, it's that noise that sounds like a sloppy kiss, my dog makes the same noise as well sometimes when she's got a dry mouth, do you know what i mean? Even when my dog makes that noise, i have to turn on the TV or something so i can't hear it anymore :laugh:

I try not to get too upset over stuff I have no control over. That said, continual sniffing is maddening.

You don’t get to say who sits on the bus
If you don’t want to hear people sniffing drive a car

tbf to Redway he never said he got upset with the person or tells them they can't sit anywhere, it's not a conscious choice on whether something like that irritates you or not :shrug:

Lol. Point me to where I (or Livia, even) said I advocated for ’bus segregation’ based on who has a “runny nose” or not. You can't because I didn't. I said I personally was the one who would always shuffle along in those situations, to a spot in front of them so I couldn't see them. Just like some people look for somewhere-else to sit when someone sits on the vacant seat besides them or gets annoyed enough to mention it in a post with crying babies whereas none of that stuff is what will annoy me. It's not that deep but if you want to start getting hot and bothered it's your prerogative. Just not here. And not when your tangential line of random argument is doing zebra zig-zag and shooting water pistils at everyone who doesn’t like sniffing. Get over yourself, man.
