Never understood why Onlyfans is so popular. I mean if you wanna find naked women, or men on the internet it's not exactly difficult. Maybe it's the interaction aspect. If it's anything like twitch i think some people hope they're in with a chance of winning the streamers' affection by giving them so much.

Yes Liam, a good girl getting on with her entrepreneurial sex work and not complaining about namby-pamby rights or safe spaces. Just how we like 'em bro.

I find it quite refreshing for a woman to use her body to advertise herself, rather than to advertise some multi national company.

OnlyFans is 100% a representation of the literal objectification/commoditisation of the (usually female) body and exactly why women's bodies are used by multinational companies to advertise their products. Having it be supposedly self-driven "self selling" legitimises it more than anything else. The female form for sale to be ogled by men ... there's no scope for complaint about other organisations cashing in on that if we're saying this is OK. Or "good". It's digital prostitution and it benefits no one (including the porn-addled "customers").

Absolutely. From what I've read about Onlyfans as well, how much a person makes from it is massively exaggerated as well in most cases :

The average creator on OnlyFans earns $151 per month*
This is what you're looking at earning for the most part if you decide to join the platform according to the statistics for 2023.

Women choosing to own their bodies and their sexualities, even if it’s to make money, is only a good thing, I thought we were passed looking down on women for the choices they make? Or is that acceptable again? I can’t keep up with the modern brand of ‘feminism’

Objectification is objectification and isn't good for anyone no matter who is doing it; when people objectify themselves, they normalise the objectification of everyone. There is no "owning it". It's not "empowering". Like I said above it doesn't benefit anyone... not those doing it, and not even the porn-sick incels buying it. It does encourage them and their thinking, though. After all, how can it be wrong to objectify people if people are choosing to objectify themselves by their own free will?

And Niamh is right with the above as well; it's also an illusion of empowerment. A miniscule number make big money... another tiny proportion end up making a passable living from it, and these are held up as reaslitic examples that tempt naive young people into the idustry with the promise of riches and expensive lifestyles.

What most of them end up with is their nudes all over the internet, £500 in their pocket and 3 stalkers.

I'm certainly not looking down on anyone, looking out for would be a better phrase

user104658 05-07-2023 02:57 PM

This isn't even a modern-partisan issue either to be honest, after young women the next two most affected groups by these "empowering sites" are trans women and gay men (or rather not men, boys in their late teens, because that's what the old fat sweaty men with their cocks out will pay to see).

Most people end up deeply regretting it. You don't often hear from those people though. You hear from the ones who made a fortune or maybe made a bit of independent money that got them out of an even worse situation (bad childhood home or coercive control in a relationship maybe). An absolutely miniscule proportion but they're the ones who got some benefit from it, so of course they're the ones you hear about.
