I need some advice. What would you do?

I've just had the most awful day at work.
My superior told me I'm not allowed to work on one of the lines anymore.
Then she proceeded to slag me off to everyone in sight.
I just feel so humiliated the whole time I'm there.
It go to the point where I hate coming to work.
When I used to be happy there.
I'm going to talk to HR to see if I can get a transfer.
I don't like to give up, but this place is slowly killing.me..

Get a transfer. You’ll look back in the future and realise it was the best decision.
Don’t stand for toxic managers. They are the ones who are lucky to have you, don’t let them make you think otherwise.

I would put in an official complaint for your Superior speaking of you in a negative way to other colleagues…very unprofessional and unacceptable.

Crimson Dynamo 08-07-2023 09:09 PM

Its not your fault Ness

Stay strong, we are with you

I agree. The best managers are the ones who are fair (never undermining them unnecessarily in front of others) and give people a chance. Even if you don’t particularly love your job, it makes a real difference when the manager’s fair.

Ugh, professionalism reeks when someone has a bias against you for whatever reason. Some people will sack you just for breathing if they don’t like you.

Nothing to do with you, Nessy. Just try and write a complaint and get a transfer. The manager sounds like more bait than they’re worth.

Vanessa 08-07-2023 09:13 PM

I'm going to ask for a transfer. Surely any place is better than this. I'm constantly put down and I'm so miserable.

I’d tell the higher up person you aren’t happy with what has happened and that people are bitching at work about you.

Duty Of Care and Mental health counts for everything these days and employers have to take responsibility…

Mystic Mock 08-07-2023 11:55 PM

It's a shame to hear that Vanessa.

Personally I would tell the manager to go and **** herself if she tried to bully me.

However as I gather that you don't want to lose your job, going to HR is probably the best option.

Cherie 09-07-2023 07:22 AM

It's bullying plain and simple, a good manager will never reprimand staff in front of their colleagues, report her to HR and ask for a transfer, and put everything in writing so you have confirmation that you have complained, and follow up if they don't do anything. HR department can be very slow to act, are you paid for taking time off, if you are you could take some time off for stress, no one should have to put up with this type of behaviour, when you complain please tell them this has affected your attitude to coming into work and that you are stressed and it is affecting your mental health, they cannot ignore that

Vanessa 09-07-2023 08:47 AM

Thanks everyone for the advice. I feel much better today.
Yes it's definitely bullying and it's very upsetting.
I'm going on holiday on Tuesday. I will definitely give a transfer some serious consideration.

user104658 10-07-2023 01:32 PM

Go to the doctor and tell them what's going on, go on long-term sick with stress and then sue the ****ers.

Never put up with anyone treating you like this. I get it that often it's not as simple as saying "just quit" because obviously people need money to live... but if you CAN afford to leave, just leave. It's not worth it and there are workplaces that will treat you well.

I would do this but additionally lodge a formal complaint with HR about the manager

Vanessa 10-07-2023 03:59 PM

She apologized to me. Oh well, that's something I suppose.

The apology part is less important than her not doing it again though... keep an eye out for someone who will be repeatedly abusive and then repeatedly apologise for it. First apology should mean a change afterwards, if it doesn't then I wouldn't accept a second apology.

Let’s just say (without going into too much detail) that I know someone very close to me who had the piss taken out of him by every white male member of staff bar one during a time when he was going through a really rough patch mentally (this was in the summer/autumn of ’21). The gossip that circulated to other people who had no business knowing his business (including a notorious gossip and so just-about the worst person you could ever tell anything confidential to) was something else. The guy glew up phenomenally when he got well again and the normal him came to light again but there was no duty of care or regard for his mental health whatsoever. Management are often fantastic when it comes to these things (and they were in this case) but lower down in the chain (especially with young men) there’s often no actual regard for those professional boundaries or right to privacy that you’d think people would just know without having to read the small-print or be told specifically. All it takes is one or two idiots to almost ruin someone’s life and they often get away with it. No apology, no nothing (they may or may not know how much the gossipee actually knows). They just walk away and land a new job, screwing up someone else’s life and reputation.

okay but will you be left in the area you work in?

hijaxers 10-07-2023 05:43 PM

Sounds like shes just covering for her totally out of order and inappropriate behaviour . Funny how people back peddle when they wake up to the fact they've treated you badly. Crap manager.

I know what you are saying and I agree. I had a Supervisor reduce me to tears and I had witnesses…she had a reputation. I took it further and the company backed her…the only satisfaction I got was that she had to sweat it out for a few months as I took it to 2 appeals….the CEO happened to be her friend…I had no chance!!
