Morocco defender Nouhaila Benzina became the first footballer to wear a hijab during a World Cup game as she helped her team beat South Korea on Sunday. Since 2014, when Fifa’s previous ban on players wearing religious head coverings on health and safety grounds was overturned, wearing a hijab has been permitted, and the 25-year-old is the first to do so at any global senior Fifa tournament. Benzina had been an unused substitute during Morocco’s opening 6-0 loss to Germany in Group H of the tournament Down Under, but she started Sunday’s game against South Korea in Adelaide. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...morocco-hijab/ this serves as protection for women from the male gaze, especially from those unrelated men. The primary intention of the Hijab is to protect women from evil eyes. The hijab is very special to many Muslim women. It represents modesty, privacy, and morality. the hijab is required by law. rainbow flags Fifa etc |
It's funny how a symbol of religious conservativism is now being hailed as a wonderful progressive thing by our media

Tbh. I'm surprised it took this long for a woman footballer to be wearing a hijab, especially from islamic countries.
Is it just a case of Morocco is the first islamic country to make it to that level? |
