Do you play cards?

What do you play, if at all?

I like Solitaire games. Spider Solitaire online is good fun. And FreeCell.

Used to always on holidays every night

whist

classic

as a youth we played 3 card brag every night outside

I used to when I was little. Haven't played in ages!

MTVN 06-08-2023 07:27 PM

Our friend group went through a big poker phase when we were 16-18. We'd play like 12 hour long games until 4am all for the sake of winning about £30 lol. Everyone took it so seriously, half the people would wear black out shades and all. I even used to read strategy books and watch it loads on telly

Haven't played it in years now though but it was good fun. Used to harbour dreams of going pro but I never made much money online from it. My brother was really good and made quite a few thousand but he had to retake a year of Uni because he was playing so much so he realised it wasn't good for him in the end

I did also play bridge for a year after taking lessons in my local pub :joker: it was me and a bunch of 60/70 year olds. I got bored of it though and didn't like the partner aspect, too much pressure and you need to properly be on the same wavelength

Swan 06-08-2023 07:31 PM

Yes, i love Texas hold em poker. Im pretty good at it too. Only form of gambling i do that i win a little at.

I tried to set up a poker tounry a couple years ago on this site, all for free, no money involved, but no one was interested :joker:

21 and Black Jack when on holiday, Black Jack in particular if you are playing in a group is great fun

Alf 06-08-2023 08:48 PM

Haven't played for a while. Used to play online poker. And we used to have poker nights with the lads.

3 card brag. Lost a lot and sometimes won a lot playing that.

:joker: you've just reminded me about the poker scam me and two friends ran in high school! One of my fri nds was good at poker, me and the other friend were OK-ish (I'm not beating anyone actually good without a lot of luck, put it that way) but basically we'd invite along random guys from school for a poker party who we knew A) were bad at poker or couldn't play at all and B) didn't get invited to many social things... £10 buy in winner takes all... We would get like 6 people to come along, my friend would win 9 out of 10 times win and if not usually me or other friend, then when everyone else was gone we would take £20 each (plus keep our own £10). Usually did it on a Thursday night, then used the money to go to the pub on the Friday.

The sad part is I figured after a while, the guys who were losing regularly but still coming along knew what was going on, but were basically willing to pay the £10 to come along for a few beers and a game of poker :umm2:.

…hah, one of my son’s group of friends went through that poker thing during 6th Form days, it must be a part of a right of passage …well done to your brother although we DO NOT condone gambling of any kind…following on from that, though…one of my son’s friends did actually drop out of uni to become a pro poker player and travelled the world circuit as it were …he was a bit of a maths genius…he had one particular huge win that was in the National media because of his young age as well…anyway, long story short…he never promoted gambling to others in any glamorous life choice kind of way because for most big wins, there are many big losses etc…impressively he changed course and invested his money into a couple of businesses in Scotland and he really is doing so well with a more stable and steady earnings …

We used to play on holiday all the time when the kids were younger, ****head was the favourite but we played Gin Rummy too and Blackjack (we called it blackjack but I think other people called it crazy eights?)

Oliver_W 13-10-2023 09:28 AM

I used to play baccarat on the terminals when my worked at Will Hill. Sometimes Solitaire too.

I can read Tarot cards so sometimes do that for friends and family.
(I'm not going to comment on whether or not I "believe" in them, but I know their meanings and how to apply them to people's questions and/or circumstances)

caprimint 13-10-2023 01:38 PM

I loveee playing Hearts online :flutter: I quite like any card games though tbh

What exactly is the game you play for cribbage? I know you have to score points. But how do you earn points?

I know Bridge is a popular game, they have clubs just for that game. I've never played it but I believe the rules are similar to a game we used to play called "Trumps" where you have to follow the suit. Not to dissimilar to Hearts.

I wouldn't know how to explain it on here. You get 5 cards put two in the box and you score by cards adding up to 15, runs etc.

Trumps is a good game but I play Crib in a pub league.

Hard to teach someone but once you know how to play it, it's fairly easy.

We used to play **** head, stoned for days. My best friend had an amazing memory and would remember what had been played and so she would know what everyone had in their hands.

We used to play 3 card brag for match sticks with my Nan and Grandad as my Nan thought gambling was the devils work (until my Grandad one the pools )
