[For the second time in just over a month,
Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell
appeared to freeze while speaking to reporters.
At a press event in Covington, Kentucky,
the 81-year-old paused for more than
30 seconds when asked whether he
would run for-re-election in 2026.
Aides attempted to prompt the senator,
but it took several more seconds for
Mr McConnell to recover.

He then answered two more questions,
which had to be repeated by staff.
He made no comments about
his health, before leaving with aides.]

I don't want to be ageist or anything but I don't understand why they have so many very elderly politicians/presidents in America.

It's arrogance for him to continue working as he is

Some might say Trump doesn't "seem" as old as some of his peers.

He can walk unaided, and can talk consistently in a strong voice.

I'm not commenting on whether or not that makes him more appropriate as a politician, but either way his age doesn't affect him as it does others.

But even that could change. As you say he's no spring C, and he is overweight, so something unfortunate could happen to him at any moment.

Trump has diminished thought and speech compared to youtube videos of him a few years ago. It's obvious to anyone that takes the time to look

It's crazy, you'd think they'd want to enjoy their last few years rather than stay in very demanding jobs they're not fit for

I find it really disturbing seeing him freeze like that, he's clearly having quite a serious decline in his cognitive functions

Trump is exactly the age as Biden was at the last elections when Donnie was mocking Biden for being too old to run for office

65 or earlier is the common retirement age for a good reason :laugh:

There will be a few years leeway on that either way depending on the individual, but over 80 is stretching it for anyone

Having watched my Father go from a healthy man into decline and ultimately death due to cognitive decline it is a hard watch. Where is his family? Do they not want him to have any semblance of dignity in his final years?

Then again, Mick Jagger is the same age as this bloke.

Maybe Mitch should have been more loose in the past.
