watched episode 1 last night

hmmmm i as a fan of the original goosebumps series, i quite liked this one too

visuals are of course much better although for its time back then the original series also had pretty neat effects

i deffo understand The Guardian's review how it gives a whole ''Stranger Things'' vibe (in a good way)

good acting too

yeah i enjoyed this, will deffo watch the rest of it too

Nicky91 15-10-2023 08:49 AM

watched episode 2 and 3 last night

episode 2
Spoiler:

i remember i liked the Haunted Mask one back then too, once again another great upgrade visually, good background story, the whole wallflower no one at school knows who she is scenario, with that Mask taking over her life and ultimately her transforming into a ''troll'' being

so the english teacher Mr Bratt (now taken over by the spirit of Harold Biddle) finding out who remembers Harold or if he's being forgotten, is a superb acting role from Justin Long :clap2:

in the end of this story, Mr Bratt was watching Isabella and her brother throw away the mask in a river from a bridge and him finding and taking it offscreen

episode 3
Spoiler:

omg yass, the cuckoo clock of doom one :worship: groundhog day vibe, James being stuck in the Biddle home, and everytime he tried leaving, he duplicated himself, with clones whom are made of some sort of substance which smells like watermelon

so his clones take over his life, while dumping him alive in a abandoned mineshaft of his family's

having caused
- Allison to get jealous of Isaiah and Margot
- breaking up with his football crush Sam
- basically insulted Isaiah as weak and talentless

but all is well in the end how the group (Isabella, Margot, Isaiah) rescue the real James and get rid of all the clones apart from one

the last remaining clone brings some mysterious box to Mr Bratt/Harold, however whatever was inside that, no longer was

also Margot's mom Sarah (whom works in seattle) knows more about Harold and prepares to return there

deffo a lot darker than the original, and i love that

Gonna start this today.

Nicky91 16-10-2023 08:41 AM

episode 4
Spoiler:

OMG the worms, so funny, whew well produced ep this one

so the worms gave Lucas sort of invincibility, regenerative powers so he could pull off his stunts without injuring himself too badly, not on long term anyway, as the worms heal him within couple minutes

he threw up all the worms and they turned into a giant worm monster, chasing Nora, Margot, Lucas to the docks,
Spoiler:

where Lucas distracted him long enough for Margot and Nora to turn on the shredder and it blew out the worm into the water in tiny pieces, what i literally said, thats one pile of fishfood :joker:

Spoiler:

Nora got taken in custody and placed in the asylum section of the hospital under Isabella's mom her care for telling the ''truth'' and nobody believed her thanks to some of the other parents (and mainly Eliza, James's mom) who probably bribed the local authorities

again good fun

episode 5
Spoiler:

we getting to learn Harold was really close with Margot's mom Sarah

Harold's backstory (also tbh his death wasn't by bullying from Ben, Sarah, Nora, Eliza, Victoria but kinda accidental how Slappy made him paranoid and they only want to take the doll away from him to restore him back to normal, so out of paranoia he locked himself in the basement and when they knocked on the basement door he panicked and fell, with his candle to the floor, engulfing everything in flames literally)

episode 6
Spoiler:

OMG YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS the return of the ICONIC Slappy!!!!!!!

also Slappy's backstory was literally amazingly written, produced

we luv our slappers

Harold still thinks of the kids their parents as murderers even though they aren't so he wants good old revenge

this is soooooo good, and kinda i am glad visually they decided to go with something scarier, darker than the original, since another R.L Stine series Just Beyond kinda flopped earlier this year on Disney

but this is visually awesome, storyline wise it kinda feels like a horror drama on its own without it being too obviously a goosebumps remake, still a lot of authenticity to it

the villain
Spoiler:

Harold Biddle
is a character what Mr Stine himself can relate to very well

the main characters have some vibes to Stranger Things's cast although also very authentic background stories

i love it so far, and as a disney loyalist i'm loving it getting much praise it deserves for visuals and story

Crimson Dynamo 22-10-2023 09:16 PM

isnt this for children?

the original 1995 series yes, which was slightly less scary

this i wouldn't recommend to the smallest children without supervision of an adult though

especially Justin Long's acting performance of Mr Bratt
Spoiler:

Harold Biddle that sick CGI visual almost as scary like Vecna is on stranger things
superb

Nicky91 18-11-2023 12:48 PM

finished season 1 last night

Spoiler:

all in all, enjoyed every episode a lot, very nice storytelling, properly well made flashback scenes, and i think we could get a season 2, since it was a bit of an open ending with
Spoiler:

Isaiah having been in coma and Margot used Slappy's revival spell on him for him to wake up + Mr Bratt having seen Slappy/Kanduu in the bathroom mirror

Nicky91 25-04-2024 04:29 PM

Sakina Jeffrey as ''Ramona''

Stony Blyden as ''Trey''

Eloise Payet as ''Hannah''

Christopher Paul Richards as ''Matty''

Kyra Tantao as ''Nicole''

Quote:

The series abandons the episodic anthology format of the 1995 original TV series to focus on a serialized-anthology style of storytelling instead, changing storylines from season to season instead of episode to episode while still featuring some of the existing Goosebumps monsters and items episodically.

i watched first 3 episodes of this last night

 proper acting, and it deffo also feels similar-ish but still authentic goosebumps nostalgia to american horror story

lovely modern take of the ''stay out of the basement'' classic :flutter:

Ammi 12-01-2025 07:19 AM

…oh I love Goosebumps stories……I don’t have Disney though, sadly…

Nicky91 13-01-2025 07:39 AM

episode 4
Spoiler:

gross, Cece drinking that thing's ''blood'' goo in her kombucha :fan: unknowingly, very nice tribute to The Blob too in this episode

and it seems
Spoiler:

Trey, having survived that attack somehow although was left comatose and doesn't have any memory of what had happened, and that thing impersonated Trey, or cloned him with its own gooey substance, so Frankie didn't murder him after all

episode 5
Spoiler:

great special effects with David, especially
Spoiler:

with his eye popping out due to being infected by that monster's spores of some kind, and then completely being taken over by that monster, making it seem as if nothing was wrong with him

also focus on CJ, delivery guy this episode, a modern take on ''the boy who cried wolf'' :laugh2:
