I would have no issue if they were there on merit, like Kelly Dalglish, Hazel Irvine or the excellent Leanne Crichton in Scotland but like the shoehorning in of minorities on tv, they are not. Its just middle-class white TV people virtue-signalling for imagined likes.

i don't care. Of all the things to worry about in the world, a lady commentator is way down the list. The majority of male commentators and pundits talk crap, so why not the ladies too?

Some ladies are on TV

Here we go again LT. Robbie Savage. No way should he be anywhere near a commentary booth. Also, Michael Owen. He talks drivel and he was the one who presented the show with Howard Webb on VAR analysis. Please list the qualifications you believe he has to fulfil such a role? He's not a journalist or trained interviewer but somehow he got the job :think:

I didnt understand the reasoning for having an all female punditry line up at the Womens World Cup, I dont think that does anything for equality, there should have been one male pundit, I know wheeled Ian Wright onto the pitch at times but its not the same thing, if a female pundit is commentating at the mens WC then a male should commentate on the women

THis what he actually said:

"'The presenters we have now, some of the girls are so good, they are better than the
guys. It’s a great time for the ladies,' he said."

'There are some very, very good lady presenters and I’m working with one in two days’
time, Terry Yorath’s daughter, Gabby [Logan],' he said.

However, he claimed women pundits were not in a position to commentate on men's
football.

'If I see an England lady footballer saying about England against Scotland at Wembley
and she’s saying, "If I would have been in that position I would have done this", I don’t
think it’s quite the same,' he said.

'I don’t think it crosses over that much.'


Fair comment from King Kev

Maybe women shouldn't be commenting on men's football. In the last couple of years the women have won the European cup and reached the final of the World Cup and all of them on a fraction of the salary the boys are making. This is something the lads haven't done for years and years. I don't see how they can possibly relate to an overpaid, overhyped, lackluster men's England side that always promises so much and delivers so little.

What irritates me about pundits and commentators is - and it's the males who are at fault for this - when they turn into a Fast Show sketch and talk absolute b******* for ninety minutes thinking they have to fill every unforgiving second with inane chatter. Comment on the game and keep your tedious anecdotes for your after dinner speaking work.

The guys are employed as they are well respected , well known ex players with loads of top level experience ..

Michael Owen wasn’t my fave player but he was the World Player and played at the very top with Liverpool, Real Madrid and England

Robbie Savage is a character who had a very long and successful career including time as international player .. footballing-wise he wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea as he was midfield grafter ( neither was Gary Neville who I love as a pundit ) .

At least we know they were good players and know what they’re talking about .

We have no idea if these women know the first thing about the game .

I rarely will watch a half time or pre-match after-match chat on tv

Better off on Talksport where its much more factual - team news, how will they line up and news from, other games

I’d prefer to have ex players we know to wirj the men’s games and have ex women players for women’s football ..

I hate it when we have two women and one guy discussing boxing and Rugby

Most of the female pundits have over 100 caps. How many do Robbie and Owen have? The difference between those two jokers and Gary Neville is that Neville has won the biggest prizes and his analysis is that of someone who has won the biggest prizes. What has Savage ever won? To get such a job cuz he's a character is the problem. His playing career was long but a long way from illustrious.

This argument regarding female pundits will run for ever but as long as the likes of Savage, Owen, David Bentley, etc are on my TV screen then I cant even name any female pundits who are as bad.

i have a far bigger problem with commentator bias. That infuriates me so much, and its apparent on every game

You can’t compare the experience / expertise of the women to the guys who played at a completely different level .


As regards Savage I feel he was underrated as a player as he kinda lived up to his name which is why he’s universally unpopular..

He was good enough to start his career at ManU but like many, many others was released due to the high level of competition there .. he did win a Cup of some kind maybe FA ?

He was a mainstay of a very decent Wales team for ten years .. and was captain and took free kicks as I recall .

So what? that's like saying a feather weight ex boxer can't commentate on a Heavy weight fight. Of course they can.

They play at the same level though really. They all play at the highest levels in their leagues and national teams against other players of equal level :shrug:

The rules are the same for both games - or are you saying a woman can't possibly understand the rules of the game?

It’s a completely different game with completely different skill levels imho

It’s like having an amateur artist offering an appraisal on a Rembrandt ..
