How satisfied are you with your job/career?

No doubt there’s going to be heaps of BB-related threads over the next few weeks so I thought I’d just bang out one of my usual threads.

You can take “career satisfaction” to mean whatever it does to you personally (you know you; I ain’t getting into that) but I will list out a few options in the inevitable poll that’s coming. The more elaborated options may or may not resonate with you that personally.

It's been good to get me out of what I was doing before but it's a bit stale now

Thankfully though I've just secured a promotion to a different department so hopefully that will change now :hee:

Listen, congrats.

Hopefully you’ll be able to hit the sweet spot of ‘comfortable but not stale.’

I'm very satisfied.

Congratulations, MTVN, on your promotion.

I’m glad.

We all deserve some satisfaction in our lives. Something worth getting out of bed for beyond just putting a roof over our heads and paying bills.

Meh....

I will probably lose it due to BB live feed anyway

Good news is it means I can just doss around in the last few weeks of my current role and spend all my time on here

Yes congratulations.

I'm been trying to get a promotion in my department also but no joy yet. I'm going to speak to a mentor this week though so hopefully they can look at my statement and tell me where I'm going wrong.

It's good when real life doesn't distract us us from important stuff, like BB, for instance.

I’m fairly content as it’s a job I know well and am good at (I first started here five years ago, left in 2021 & returned three months ago), but it’s not what I want to be doing forever as I feel that there’s something out there for me that will unlock some hidden potential

However, I don’t plan on changing jobs anytime soon as I hope to buy my first property in the coming months so some stability job-wise will be very important for that.

The answer would have been different literally a few short months ago, it's still mostly 100% but there are currently some issues bubbling under the surface that are causing some friction. Not the work itself. Just workplace politics.

I like the company I work for, I've worked there since 2016 and started my 3rd role in the company at the start of this year, so averaging 3 years per role which I think says a lot about it being a place to stick around in. The pension arrangement isn't great but they upped their contributions after I'd reached 5 years of service, it'll happen again when I get to 10...

It's all desk based stuff though so it can be boring when you aren't kept busy, I find it goes from full on deadline pressure to thumb twiddling quite rapidly. I don't complain though, as long as nobody snitches on me for looking at my phone when it's quiet... haha.

That's why you negotiate for a hybrid office and spend the quiet days "working" from home ;). People will argue that you won't progress because you're not working to the bone every day but it's simply not true, any half decent organisation is going to judge you on the quality of your work not flat "work hours spent". You can't apply the mindset of manual labour to a modern office-based role.

Oh I've been hybrid working for years, they've asked us to do 50/50 office/home split but in reality it's more like I go in one day a week - the team I'm in is spread across the country and the work we do isn't really collaborative on a regular basis, so it's easier to just travel to the same office if we need to than go into the local office for the sake of ticking a box. Totally agree though, there are days where I really don't do anything useful but then there are other days that I'm working flat out for 10 hours, at home, using the time I'd be commuting to get more stuff done. It works for me, I'm paranoid it'll get taken away!
