"People can have prejudices against certain things"

**** off Olivia

As if people can't dislike a person past their 'thing'. This passive aggressive implied transphobia when in reality no one gives a **** unless you are forcing it is tiresome.

God, the modern accepted mindset... It drives me nuts.

Mystic Mock 29-10-2023 11:17 PM

Olivia probably thinks that will make her popular with the public.

And tbf it will give her a portion of the public on her side, but there'll be a swarm that won't have a bar of her if she keeps speaking like that.

Personally I like it when Housemates don't shy away from saying controversial stuff, as long as it's nothing evil.

jj1994 29-10-2023 11:25 PM

She made a good point though.

I completely understand what you're saying about society these days, and people do seem very sensitive but there's no denying transphobia is rife.

It wouldn't surprise me if hallies nomination was put into some TERF group and people voted to evict her without even seeing the show.

Dylan was clearly the one who should of went.

Redrose 29-10-2023 11:25 PM

Didn't find what Olivia said controversial. She was right.

Transphobia is not rife

jj1994 29-10-2023 11:30 PM

It is.

You only have to scroll through tik tok/twitter for 5 minutes when the subject is about trans people to see it.

just because you haven't been subjected to it doesn't mean it's not happening.

Life is not defined by tiktok or Twitter.

They do not define reality

I would suggest that those platforms have skewed your perception.

Oh look I have no doubt that Transphobia (and other prejudices) are rife within society.

But on a Show like Big Brother, saying negative things about the public to do with prejudice will be divisive, rightly or wrongly.

Plus anybody that had genuine issues with Hallie will also not like being associated with Transphobes.

Exactly

So we saying that if Trish got evicted it could have been racially motivated? And that when Kerry goes it’s because she’s disabled? I voted for Hallie multiple times because i wasn’t a fan of her and her attitude, plus the playing up to the cameras was getting old. Are there transphobic people out there, well duh, yes, but way to jump the gun Olivia… I think we also forget BB has had 2 trans winners before

jj1994 29-10-2023 11:34 PM

I'm well aware of that. But there are real people behind those accounts posting vile comments to be seen by the masses. The affects that can have on people is very real.

To say that there's not a large number of people who aren't transphobic out there is ignorant.

I think you're missing the point Olivia was trying to make.

She wasn't saying the sole reason for Hallie being evicted was being trans. She was saying that might of influenced some of the voting i.e. a portion of the votes she received may have been made made because she was trans.

Present, which I agree, is not the same as rife. Rife is pure hyperbole. The existence of 'transphobia' is vastly exaggerated.

But that's just it, I don't accept it's about prejudice.

Hallie got the boot because she was a PITA, no more no less.

Nothing to do with trans.

I voted for Nadia, but would never vote for Hallie.

BB has always had the most progressive audience... Way before it was mainstream. You can't be a fan of the show and not be that. I hate this new move to suggest that we are somehow 'ist'.

I think Transphobia is more present than other prejudices in society imo, sure it's exaggerated to an extent, but I think that it's more common than I personally would like to see, especially on places like YouTube.

But tbf I don't want them silenced either, I personally believe debating with these people why your view is correct is the best way to go on topics like Trans issues.

And tbf I have no reason to not believe you, you haven't made a Transphobic comment from what I've seen of your posts, because I do believe that you can dislike a Trans person without being Transphobic.

I mean what's been said about Hallie on Social Media? Because that will give an indication of what the main reason the public decided to vote Hallie out.

I have been part of the gay/ trans scene literally all my life... From the 80's until now. From being a young child I was around trans people. I was raised in a gay working girl household.

Hatred of trans is, right now, at an all-time low. It might be amplified due to social media, but it really isn't what it used to be. It has mainstream acceptance.

There is zero comparison between being in that scene back then and now... watch 'The Naked Civil Servant' for a primer.

Me too. I always welcome good-faith conversations.

Jenkins was right as well. Don't try and make out that trans is the new gay. In certain countries like Iran gay men are forced to transition.

In Palestine they are thrown off roofs.

I agree that the Trans community has probably the most support that it's ever received nowadays, but I also think that it has more people not liking them than ever before, essentially a marmite community imo.

What's The Naked Civil Servant? I'm gathering not a very nice thing gathering from your post.

And same here, it's nice to have a conversation without people viewing each other as evil for simply having a different opinion.

I wish that the Internet in general can be more like this thread.

It did , twitter is furious with Chanelle for daring to say she was voted out because she was unpopular I was shocked by how many people are calling her a transphobe now

BB-Germany 30-10-2023 08:33 AM

I do not know if she is completely right in this case as Hallie has "evicted housemate" written all over her with that behaviour, but I respect Olivia for speaking out

It was a hive-mind virtue signalling "performance"

she did not believe it but she did think of she said it people would admire her

I can pull up Twitter now and show you that what Olivia said is true. There’s so many people out there who dislike someone simply because they’re trans. The Facebook mothers are the worst.
