The prize money should be more?
 

I feel like £100,000 has perhaps lost it’s value in 2023 unless you already have an established lifestyle (house/car/etc)

But most certainly in London I don’t think I could even buy a run down studio in a questionable area for that.

I feel like the prize fund should be 250K/300K as that’s when it becomes life changing.

For me and most people won’t understand
The money means nothing, lottery winners have won millions but only brought them misery
People know the price of everything and the value of nothing

I was surprised they didn't increase it tbf. It's been £100,000 since BB11 thirteen years ago

Lot of money but given they're competing for six weeks and only one in sixteen can win anything then yeah the reward isn't that great, especially because going on BB can expose you massively

They get all their expenses paid for in the outside world

agree with this, the prize money isn't the most important thing and 100k seems fair enough once you add in all the additional appearance fees and expenses

True but I suspect some of them at least have had to give up jobs to go in there and it could also negatively affect future employment (could also help in some industries of course)

I mean, they could've kept it at the initial £150,000 that BB16's prize started at. But also, BBUS's prize had been $500,000 until 2021 when it was increased to $750,000, BBAU's prize has mostly been AU$250,000, give or take some years, and BBCAN's prize has been CA$100,000 for its entirety.

100K is still a lot. I think it's the right amount.

Henry could be winning 101K though.

I think they made a decision to quit their jobs/put it on hold and that's the gamble you take beforehand.

They also get the platform so can so what they wish afterwards with support from agents etc.

I think £100,000 is a life-changing amount of money, especially if used wisely. I also agree with those who have said that it is an all expenses paid, once in a lifetime experience that money can’t buy.

In reality, if some of them have chosen to give up jobs, logic suggests they must have been able to afford to, otherwise they just couldn’t do it in the first place. I also think that, in this day and age, they all recognise that they could be presented or perceived negatively, and most of them will also recognise how small their chances of winning are.

Unlike in the very early days, I believe housemates opt to go on BB for very different reasons. Nowadays, a good number will be there to enhance their profile. Some will be there because they fancy a career change, and will hope it might open up possibilities for them. A few might be there for the experience or the prize money.

To me, it’s a gamble, but they know it’s a gamble, and to the average person,£100,000 is a whopping prize if you win.

Beautifully said. I'm a postie so not actually on a lot of money. So I would take the risk. If I was on Big Brother I would genuinely be in there for a mix of reasons. The experience, a chance of winning the money. Possible career change for other opportunities or of course all else could fail and I go back to my job or sell up my house and leave the country. :joker:

I don’t think it can be compared to other game shows - the prizes are what they are, and the contestants decide whether it’s worth participating or not, given the amount offered. If it’s acceptable to them, they will take part - if it’s unacceptable to them, they won’t. I’m sure there are people who would choose to take part, even if they halved the prize money.

Exactly, Beastie. You put in a good day’s work for an average wage - so imagine how many years it would take for you to take home £100,000 in your pay packet! I can understand why you might take the risk. And I would imagine, if you resigned in your line of work, you could reapply for your job again. I know there’s a real shortage of posties in my part of the country, to the point that we don’t get deliveries every day any longer!

Part of me wishes that more of the housemates were the average working class people, like posties, rather than models, etc, who already make a good living, as those are the people who the prize money would truly make a difference to.

I adore Henry as a person, and part of me wants him to win, but another part of me would prefer the money to go to someone whose life it would truly make a difference to, as they would value it so much more.

I haven't been too impressed by what some said they would do with the money, so I'm not sure it matters. Booze and a shopping spree is not my idea of a good use of money.

I’ve always thought it would be interesting to have it be £1 million. See who is actually just there for the experience then. ;)
