Is it acceptable to be a game player?

Question asked to the housemates, but what are your thoughts on it?

GoldHeart 14-11-2023 06:49 PM

If you enter a game show then yes ,it just depends what type of game plan. You can still play the game and not be a conniving spiteful twat .

This.

Here's the thing, yes it's a gameshow, but it's not exactly Family Fortunes. In theory trying to win/wanting to win a gameshow is fine, and correct. However, with Big Brother if you're "playing a game" it means you're lacking sincerity, and it makes the audience question if you're genuine or just fooling all the people who have invested time, and sometimes money, into the person the HM is portraying in the house.

So for me, not really, i dont like it.

Ray. 14-11-2023 06:50 PM

Well it was a gameplayer who made the show a hit over here, so it'd better be okay lol.

ebandit 14-11-2023 06:52 PM

BB house is an artificial environment...................... it is unrealistic to expect anything else other than game playing

viewers accept this or call out HM's depending upon how much they are liked..................

But they're all playing a game to a degree lol . Obviously if you get cocky or keep talking as if you're on family fortunes, then it will be off-putting .

People who avoid arguments and sit on the fence ,is it a game plan? Or just their personality?. Those people get accused of being insincere aswell.

OnTheRight 14-11-2023 06:55 PM

Of course it is. In it to win it and win by all means necessary.

Atake25 14-11-2023 07:22 PM

For me it’s a personality show so I want the person I like most to win , people will see this as someone who’s funny , intelligent, kind of even a full on game player I loved victor in one of the big brothers who let the audience in in his game plan but he was hated for it , generally people in the uk hate open game plans so they are mostly hidden
The game playing I don’t like is fake romance , hurting peoples feelings like Jenkins said really , kissing someone for air time as it’s definitely a way to make the edits , saying that I like Jordan though and I think that’s exactly what he’s doing ( just please don’t break Henry’s heart )

I agree with a lot of what you say here, Atake.

To be a popular game player, a housemate needs to make viewers privy to their game and almost party to the mischief - and it’s key that it would have to be mischief, rather than nastiness. And they’d need to avoid any targeting of the weaker personalities. I actually do think that could be quite fun to observe, and I wouldn’t disapprove at all.

If a game player is someone who tries to trick and deceive viewers as well as housemates, or who is game playing for self-centred reasons rather than for mischief or as a challenge to themselves, to me that’s tipped into falseness and isn’t for me.

Lostie! 14-11-2023 07:44 PM

Yep. As long as the viewers are in on it. I have no respect for those who fake an entire persona to get votes.

But people who just openly recognise it's a competition and that they want to win, absolutely. That's a hell of a lot more real than the "I'M JUST HERE'S FOR THE EXPERIENCE" gang.

GlitterUK 14-11-2023 10:38 PM

I liked gameplayers when the game is played well. I think sitting on the fence is also a gameplay move but not one I am a fan of.

Abra 14-11-2023 11:47 PM

Everyone is playing a game to some extent, it's fair enough if you want to go in there and have absolutely no agenda to win or gain anything from it other than the experience, but the constant diatribes from Jenkin about how morally wrong it is to "play a game" in there is so ridiculous when it's a damn game show with a cash prize.

Jenkin clearly thinks it's better to just sit on his arse all day moaning and bitching and stashing away alcohol and food.

Mystic Mock 15-11-2023 03:33 AM

Well it is a gameshow.

Imo as long as you're not playing really personal or inhumane, I don't see the issue.

This for me.

Plus however you maybe can go on BB thinking you've a game plan, which can easily get derailed by the events in the house and how the other housemates interact with you too.

bots 15-11-2023 07:34 AM

i think it's an artform in itself. Everyone is playing the game obviously, but some come across more natural when they do it. I think this is why some a branded game player, because they move outside the bounds of what appears natural behaviour

Ammi 15-11-2023 07:40 AM

…it was interesting, wasn’t it…when Tom said/accused, really…‘don’t forget what you’re here for…and also almost inferring../…don’t be going making friends and connecting and having fun etc because you came for a reason and keep your eyes on the prize…’…/…that very much could be a take on what he said…but the thing with that is, yeah it would indicate a game playing of the end goal being to win/and the cash prize etc….but he himself has so genuinely felt the loss of Paul and of others in his ‘group’….so I guess that’s an indication also that there are many game players in there, not just this house but in days gone by…but along the way, they also make friends and attachments as well …which I think would be very rare that a housemate wouldn’t feel that because the house becomes their world and their family…and that’s something that could never be truly anticipated until they’re actually there and living it…

…anyway, I’ve probably got off track…but yeah I think it’s totally acceptable because if it wasn’t then there probably wouldn’t be a BB to even think about it all…but obviously it’s all going to bring a risk factor as well because there are so many layers to playing a game…someone would have to anticipate ‘just the right game to win’ as it were…and then they would have to be really focused throughout to maintain it because we people, fairly much scrutinise every breath they take…some seasons, a ‘game player’ would be popular and gain votes etc but in other seasons, not so much…?…so yeah it’s all very layered and complicated and I think that ‘game player’ is an overused word and label when with BB and housemates…

…I’ve honestly got completely off topic now……anyway, with Jordan for instance….I was thinking that he’s the person this series who has most been labelled a game player …but I don’t personally think he is…because showmances in general, no matter how many sides and angles they have…?…are not something that BB fans really take to…there’s an immediate suspicion etc…and they’re more of a put off and ick than a turn on and a bit of a BB no, no….so it wouldn’t be a wise game to play…it would seem fairly dumb, maybe …and I wouldn’t attach that to his character…I can’t recall what the question was, but yeah…

On a gameshow, surely its a prerequisite?

Zizu 15-11-2023 08:05 AM

Is it acceptable to be a game player?

I thought it was supposed to be a social experiment ?

If it’s a game show per se then should all do a pre show clip laying out their game plan / s and showing how devious they are ..

Then I’d be happy for any kind of tactics

…it’s a social experiment based game show that has a large cash prize at the end for the winner…it doesn’t have to be an either/or thing, Zizu…
