Yes, go.

We need to resurrect the cinema.

This year has been one of the best years for a long, long time (maybe the Covid fiasco helped bring Hollywood back to life?)

We've had Christopher Nolan with "Oppenheimer" Martin Scorsese with "Killer's of the flower moon and now Ridley Scott with "Napoleon" Three of the greatest living movie directors in one year. The Covid fiasco probably got them so bored that they thought, "Let's do what we do best and make a movie"

Watching Netflix at home is not even close to an experience as Watching a movie on the big screen.

Alf 21-11-2023 01:48 PM

Out tomorrow. I'll be there.

Didn't Ridley Scott think that he knows more about the history of Napoleon Bonaparte than actual Historians?

If true then I swear the ego of these Hollywood Directors.

Alf 22-11-2023 02:44 PM

Quite disappointing. Too much of a love story and not enough battle scenes. I wouldn't re-watch that.

5/10 and that's being generous

MTVN 22-11-2023 02:49 PM

I'll go next week I think but reviews have not been great

bots 22-11-2023 04:47 PM

Yeah' it wasn't great.

Hopefully the person who makes the 4 hour epic "Trump" movie in the future will do a better job than this.

Ridley Scott is the guy who brought us the timeless masterpieces like Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator. I think if this is what he has to offer now at his old age then he should retire now, because he doesn't want to outweigh his legacy as a master film maker.

Alf 22-11-2023 05:01 PM

The final Waterloo scenes were good. But they were the final ten-fifteen minutes of the film. You have to get through 2 and half hours before that.

I'm not surprised. I heard the trailer on the radio and Joaquin Phoenix's acting sounds atrociously bad.

The middling reviews for this make me pine even more for the Kubrick/Nicholson version that was never to be.

Ray. 28-11-2023 10:58 AM

Just got back from seeing it. Loved every single moment of it. Historical accuracy is a distant second for me when it comes to pulling off an absolute masterpiece of cinema, and for me, Ridley Scott has once again achieved exactly that with this film. The cinematography, the acting, the battle set pieces, etc. All of it was pulled off with great aplomb.

But I think the high point of the movie was when Napoleon suddenly started dancing to Jamiroquai's Canned Heat in order to win the class election for Pedro Sanchez. I found that part to be extraordinarily touching, and yet also funky.

arista 28-11-2023 11:35 AM

It is too long at 2 hours 28mins.

Is the Canned Heat part real?

I pray to the heavens that you're being sarcastic.

 Lol it's a reference to the teen comedy Napoleon Dynamite. Search 'Napoleon Dynamite dance' on YouTube and you'll see what I mean. I'd link it myself, but linking YouTube videos on this site never works out for me, for some odd reason.
