Virgin Atlantic flight to New York JFK using Boeing 787 Dreamliner with safer fuel
[The first transatlantic flight by a
large passenger aircraft using pure sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) “shows how we can decarbonise transport”, Transport Secretary Mark Harper has said ahead of its planned departure from Heathrow. Virgin Atlantic will operate the flight to New York JFK with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft today. Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson, Mr Harper and Virgin Atlantic chief executive Shai Weiss will be among the passengers on the flight, which is not carrying fare-paying travellers, yet.] https://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/pa...ener-fuel.html |

Is it genuinely pig fat? Because while it's fun in concept... the environmental impact of farming enough pigs to power the number of flights dotting around the globe daily would be astronomical. Probably bigger that the current aviation emissions :joker:. Much like "clean" electric cars and the great honking filthy impact of battery industry/manufacture :idc:.

It's like wind farms, they give you a bit of power, but you will need to have one in your back garden for it to become viable |

Otherwise you'll never get the consistent output needed from 100% green sources. |

No problems with the Used Chip Oil Fuel |
[The first transatlantic flight by a large passenger
plane powered only by alternative fuels has landed in the US. Operated by Virgin Atlantic, it flew from London's Heathrow to New York's JFK airport. Airlines see the flight, which is supported by government funding, as demonstrating that a greener way of flying is possible. But a lack of fuel supply remains a challenge, while other technology will be needed to hit emissions targets. The flight was a one-off of its kind so far, and is not carrying fare-paying passengers.] https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67548961 |
