Pontins to close Prestatyn and Camber Sands resorts ‘with immediate effect’

[Pontins is closing its resorts in Prestatyn,
north Wales, and Camber Sands
in East Sussex,
throwing holidaymakers’ plans
for a Christmas break into disarray.
The seaside resort group,
which last year was rated among the
worst holiday parks in the UK,
said on its website that both sites
would shut “with immediate effect”.

The company said: “Customers whose
bookings will be affected by these closures
will be contacted by our team
and refunded.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”]

I went to a Camber Sands caravan holiday park with a few mates when i was in my late teens. The nighttime vibe was always off. Two groups of lads got into a fight, and there were always Police around. And it was all very grotty. It doesn't surprise me one of them has closed.

Camber Sands is a lovely beach though, when the sea isn't a million miles out anyway. Used to go there a lot as a kid in the summer.

i love going to camber sands in the summer, it's just a short hop for me. I don't think the pontins place has been popular in many, many years. It's primarily day visitors that go

[Britannia Hotels buys Pontins out of administration]

[Britannia Hotels has secured the purchase of Pontins,
two months after the holiday camp business
went into administration.

Alex Langsam, Britannia's chief executive,
said the deal would safeguard the jobs
of 850 staff, most of who are based at
Pontins' five holiday parks at Brean Sands,
Somerset; Camber Sands, East Sussex;
Pakefield, Suffolk; Prestatyn Sands, North Wales
and Southport, Merseyside,
as well as improve the existing facilities.]

[It is believed Britannia, which has built up a
group of 36 hotels in the UK after rescuing many
distressed properties over a period of 30 years,
paid around £20m for Pontins,
which had fallen into financial difficulties
owing £44m to the banks.
