[A devastating earthquake hit
central Japan today with a
preliminary magnitude of 7.6,
prompting mass evacuations,
sparking fires and leaving residents trapped
under the rubble of their homes.]

[A total of 21 quakes above 4.0 magnitude rang out
shortly after 4pm local time (7am UK time),
and videos shared
on social media and broadcast on
Japanese TV showed how buildings collapsed
in Suzu, a city close to the epicentre of the
largest quake, with thick cracks appearing in roads.

The tremors triggered a huge fire in Wajima city,
in the worst-hit Ishikawa prefecture,
with shocking footage showing massive
flames engulfing residential buildings
according to local broadcasters]

your usual quakes in Japan

weren't the quakes back then in Kobe worse than 7.6?

this one, which was highlighted on that Nat Geo show Seconds from Disaster

The Coast plane
was in the wrong runway.

A Airport Official failed to get it moved
All 5 men died

how did it get on the wrong runway?

especially when they knew the passenger jet was coming in to land

was that airport official alone in the tower, because there usually are at least two in the tower, an official and a supervisor

Nicky91 03-01-2024 08:39 AM

maybe miscommunication somehow  that that cargo plane only heard couple of sentences

this can happen if you talk at the same time, so you cancel each other out kinda, or if more planes in the area were communicating at the same time, then a thing such as a heterodyne can occur, a beeping noise, where you can fail to hear some crucial info (that latter occured in the tenerife disaster collision of the KLM and Pan Am planes)

"how did it get on the wrong runway?"

It was a Plane helping the earthquake,
not normally there,
of course it was a error
not being moved.
It's because of the mess Japan is in,
after this tragic eathquake.

The deaths on the smaller plane are a tragedy, but this could have been so much worse. The majority of air travel fatalities are crashes on landing.
