Annie Nightingale has died
 

Radio 1 DJ Annie Nightingale, the station's first female presenter, who went on to become its longest-serving host, has died at the age of 83.

Nightingale joined the station in 1970 and remained the only woman on the line-up for 12 years.

She was known for her passion for a wide range of music, championing everything from prog rock and punk to acid house and grime.

She remained on air until late last year with Annie Nightingale Presents.

Nightingale was also known for co-hosting BBC Two music show The Old Grey Whistle Test.

I used to listen to her show all the time

Although I didn't know she was 83. And I think I got her mixed up with Annie Mac...but still it's sad. She was a big radio personality

She was cutting edge in her day, she played music i like and hosted the whistle test, which was my favourite show of the week

She was the first female Radio 1 presenter and an icon for women wanting to break into music presenting on TV and radio!

It's a crazy thought but I always feel some famous people are protected against death.

Yes she was 83, but still a shock.

It's horrible when you get to 50 plus and all your childhood influences start popping off.

I've lost so many last year, and now this, at the start of the year.:bawling:

Horrible, but I'm tempted to say Gerwyn Price is a hero to test the waters.
