Poor Things (coming to Disney Plus, somewhere in March or april)

nominated for 11 oscars

i'm kinda looking forward to this, if it received that many oscar nominations

i always like Willem Dafoe anyway, same goes for Emma Stone

fun fact about the director Yorgos Lanthimos (in his early career days, he was a director for greek popstar Sakis Rouvas his music videos, and now he has a oscar nomination for best director)

its on Disney now :)

…did you watch it, Nicky…?..it would be nice to have a little review from you when/if you do…I don’t have Disney Plus atm but for me, I think that it’s going to be one of those movies that I put off and put off and put off etc watching because it’s not really appealing…but then when I do watch it…?…I’ll, think….ahhhhhh, why did I not watch it before and maybe love it….

Niamh. 28-03-2024 03:09 PM

I watched half of it (I had to turn it off because I had to do something and I just haven't gotten round to watching the 2nd half yet) It's a very odd film, I'm not sure what to make of it yet. I won't review it until I finish it though

Ammi 28-03-2024 03:15 PM

…but the half you saw did make you think that you’ll continue watching, though…?….there are a few highly acclaimed/award nominated and winning films that I’ve thought…hmmmm, no….but then eventually watched and sometimes like very much…others, not so much, though…it could go either way…

Ammi 28-03-2024 03:16 PM

…Mark Ruffalo is one of my favourite actors, though…

Yeah just out of curiosity more than anything else, but it was a few weeks ago since I watched the 1st and I haven't rushed back to finish it either.......make of that what you will.

Speaking of Oscar movies, I watched the start of Maestro and turned it off after about 5 minutes

…I’m just looking at the ones that I’d probably like to see now…El Conde actually streaming on Netflix …I did have it to suggest but then wasn’t sure if it was subtitled and whether that would be ok…Anatomy of a Fall, I think I’d like to watch…The Zone of Interest, The Creator and The Eternal Memory…I think that might be another subtitled non-English language but I’m not sure…also Nyad, I think is streaming on either Netflix or Prime, so maybe that should go on the watch list…it’s two fine actresses, It’s just not what I’ve wanted to watch at the times I’ve looked at it…

its production company Searchlight is one of quite good quality too btw

same one also behind other highly praised films such as

Nomadland
Three Billboards Over Ebbing, Missouri
The Descendants
Black Swan
12 Years a Slave
The Shape of Water
The Favourite
Little Miss Sunshine
The Wrestler

Nicky91 31-03-2024 07:40 AM

seen it last night

My Review

it's very weird, quirky, a ''frankenstein'' vibe (in a very good way) and I LOVED every second of it

the sex scenes well nothing i haven't seen before in shows like Game of Thrones for example :hehe: which i call HBO moments

the scenery also made it feel like a fairytale, such beautiful filming work & visuals production

Emma Stone very very deserving best actress oscar winner :worship: worldclass performance, but tbh i also had expectations from her, since we also know her from slayage acting performances in Cruella, La La Land, and as ''Gwen Stacy'' in Amazing Spiderman

Willem Dafoe :laugh2: quite some funny scenes with him too
Spoiler:

like how he has to create his own stomach acid with creating bubbles out of his mouth :joker:

Mark Ruffalo's character also well played

my score 9.5 :clap1: :clap1: :clap1: very deserving of all these oscar nominations, and music wise, its kinda similar to same music used in The Favourite (also directed by Lanthimos btw)

i recommend this to other people yes, its quite a experience to watch

Ammi 31-03-2024 07:42 AM

…9.5 is some high rating, Nicky…I’ll probably give it a little look on that recommendation…when I can stream for free, that is…

i'm not one to easily give high ratings to oscar nominee films tbh

but yeah very well made film, i also love the black/white scenes (equally as much as in Werewolf By Night, it really enhances that classic feeling)

Nicky91 31-03-2024 08:06 AM

and i knew i recognized
Spoiler:

Felicity character actress, Andie Macdowell's daughter Margaret Qualley, whom was also in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

&

Spoiler:

Madame Swiney actress, knew it, the same actress who also played Eezy Karn in Andor
