What Japanese Anime/Western Cartoon are you currently watching thread.

Basically I thought it might be fun to see what people who like Animation Shows are currently watching.

Especially as I'm a big Animation fan personally.

At the moment I'm 16 episodes into a Japanese Anime called Clannad: After Story, which has 24 episodes, and is a sequel Season to Clannad (which was 23 episodes) the studio that makes the Anime is Kyoto Animation (the studio that also made Violet Evergarden) and I've got to say that whilst Clannad isn't my usual type of Anime to watch, it is absolutely high quality Slice Of Life/Drama series with a nice dose of Comedy inbetween.

Episode 16 of After Story had an ending that really shocked the **** out of me, not that it actually happened (because that part was kind of obvious) but the fact that it happened in episode 16 rather than the finale.

It's a well made series imo, and I recommend it to people that might not like the look of the more unrealistic looking Animes, or just anyone that appreciates a well written story with good character development.

Here's a trailer for anyone that's interested.

I've also watched Black Lagoon not that long ago as well, and that is really good for totally different reasons to Clannad.

I would say think GTA meets 24, you guys would get what I mean if you ever checked it out.

Revy after all is my Avatar pic on here, she deserves to be seen by more people god damn it!:fist::joker:

But seriously she is a great character, as are Rock, Dutch, the Russian Lady that I can never say her name properly, and Benny.

I've finished Clannad: After Story.

Episode 24 is a summary episode of events that have already happened in the Show, for the most part, so there's not really much to say on that tbh.

It ended quite well tbf, it kind of did the
Spoiler:

Steins;Gate formula when it came to character deaths, but I can live with that tbf, at least most of the Show stayed as cannon.

Overall I really enjoyed the Show, and episode 23 being back in their high school years again was a nostalgic blast from the past.

I've watched the first 5 episodes of Haikyu!! And it has been a decent start so far.

In particular Kageyama is a star so far imo.

I lived AOT and I’m watching MHA but I’ve gone off it in recent years tbh

AoT and FMAB will always be my favourite

I've got to catch up on MHA, I do agree with you that it's earlier material was better.

I've finished the first Season of Haikyu!! And it was a fun First Season.

It didn't blow my mind, but it was fun enough, kind of like Mob Psycho for me in how I felt about that Anime.

I'm currently watching three Animes that are airing in the current season.

Wind Breaker - Probably my biggest surprise of the three as I really didn't think that I was going to like the Show.

Don't get me wrong, it's OTT and very cheesy, but it's consistently really fun to watch with likable characters, and there is a basic plot there that's actually acceptable for the kind of Anime that it is imo.

Just don't go into Wind Breaker expecting the "coolest" Anime of the season, because you won't enjoy it with that mindset.

Kaiju No. 8 - It started a bit off for me, and I still don't think that the plotting is the best on Kaiju No. 8, but the Comedy and Action are really strong for the Show imo.

Plus the Vice Captain really gives me Levi Ackerman vibes, which is always a good thing in my eyes.

Go Go! Loser Ranger! - Despite the crazy name, and the whacky ED, Loser Ranger is probably the most serious of the three Animes, and definitely seems to be pushing it's narrative the most.

Again it kind of took awhile for me to warm up to Loser Ranger (especially as I do have an aversion to modern western tastes creeping into the Animes that end up getting made,) however I do think that in general Loser Ranger is improving with each episode, and I appreciate the fact that it is actually trying a bit harder than usual for modern Anime, on actually having a plot with the potential to build actual depth to it in possible sequel seasons.

I'm not a huge anime guy beyond the mainstream, localised stuff I watched when I was a kid (e.g., Yu-Gi-O, Pokemon, Sailor Moon), but recently I've been re-watching the old Funimation dub of DBZ. As far as Dragon Ball Z goes, the Funi dub is my jam, warts and all. I love the Bruce Faulconer synth/electronic soundtrack, Linda Young as Frieza, the oftentimes childish dialogue, etc.

Fair play.

Getting into most kind of Animes is good in my book (bar sexualized Loli/Shota content, that I will judge anybody for) but I am trying to not be elitist anymore.

I'm just happy if anyone shares the interest of watching Anime, so I'm glad that you've got shows like DBZ and Pokemon that you enjoy.

I've finished all three of these Animes First Seasons.

They have all been renewed, which is good news for the fans of these Shows.

I personally liked all three Animes, none of them were perfect imo, but they were entertaining to watch for me, which I do think is a very important aspect of a TV Show to try and reach.

Like in a lot of industries at the moment though, I do wish that modern Anime could do some more ambitious storylines again.

Don't get me wrong I like some of the more laid back/more basic plotting Animes, but I do feel like we're really lacking an epic Anime that will run for a few Seasons.

But having said that, I did enjoy Wind Breaker, Go!Go! Loser Ranger! And Kaiju No. 8

And I did enjoy Clannad despite it not being an epic style of storytelling (mainly because it is really well written imo, I recommend it to any Anime fan that just wants something of a high quality, and doesn't really care too much about genre.)

Oh and my rankings for the 3 Animes goes like this.

1. Wind Breaker - It's cheesy as hell, but it's so fun with it that I let it slide.

I'm undecided between the other two.

I think that Kaiju No. 8 has the better characters.

But I think that Go! Go! Loser Ranger has presented a better plot (controversial opinion.)

So for now I'll call it a draw.

I'm currently watching an old Cartoon series from back in the 00's called W.I.T.C.H, I don't know if anyone on here remembers the Show at all?

Well for me back then, I liked the look of the Cartoon but never actually watched for two reasons.

1. I thought that it was for girls only (I was 8 years old at the time tbf.)

And 2. Obviously there's only so many Cartoons that can be watched by one child.

But currently I have watched the first 7 episodes of Season 1 and I am liking it so far, it's not blow my mind TV, but it is a fun Show with some good characters, and decent lore for a Show that has done 7 episodes where I'm at.

So far I think that it's at the very least a 7/10, personally I would give it an 8, but I would be surprised to see anyone giving it lower than a 7 so far because in my view, the Show gets the basics down of what is a well written Show imo.

Awhile back now I watched I Parry Everything, which was a decent Anime but nothing exceptional.

I've done the first 10 Seasons of South Park, which was absolutely fantastic.

I've taken a break for now, but I will have to see what Cartman and Mr/Miss. Garrison are going to do next at some point in the future.:joker:

And I've then tried Lockdown Zone: Lv. X, which was severely under-budgeted imo.

The budget just kind of harmed everything bar the OP (which I did really like Lockdown Zone's OP tbf) but the dire budget killed the tension that the Anime was trying to build I thought.

And the one that I've tried today but it didn't really excite me was Summer Time Rendering.

Don't get me wrong there's a couple of interesting elements in the first three episodes, but it just wasn't for me.

The pacing in particular was not to my personal taste, but the Ecchi was again not necessary in an Anime like this.

I'm not even a prude ffs, but this Anime was forcing in sexual innuendo and other fan service content in a series that needs a more serious tone to it.

And the character dynamics were kind of flat imo compared to the first few episodes of Steins;Gate or Erased.
