All the best Sir Chris.a strong man with a long fight ahead.

Do we know what kind? Is it testicular, caused by the bike? Not trying to be flippant, just interested.

…no, he hasn’t given details of any of his diagnosis other than he’s begun chemo…he may reveal/share more in the up and coming….

Not disclosing the type seems to be in vogue atm.

I wonder why ?

If they are disclosing that they have the disease to help / inspire fellow sufferers then presumably specifying the type can only be more effective

Tbh, in his statement he said he hoped to deal with it privately but his hand was forced to reveal it. I guess someone was going to leak it first so he made a statement.

Everyone's cancer battle is personal and so if he wants it to remain private the type of cancer he has, I think that should be respected

joeysteele 16-02-2024 09:36 PM

Wishing him hopefully a good recovery.

Absolutely, I know if I ever get the big C I would share with only very close, I wouldnt want the pity..I think that is worse than the disease

But if it was the definite terminal type, like pancreatic(my dad died of that very quickly) wouldnt you want people you've known through the years to come by so you and they could say goodbye.

Not saying theres a right and wrong here. But I think I would.

To illustrate...andbthis us coincidental..very coincidental for me.

Just popped onto my facebook.

And my mate has just died of lung cancer.

Remeber I posted about him posting on facebook about having 2 weeks to go and deciding to spend it at home, about 6 months ago...well Lazarus has finally met his maker..he kept his humour to the very end, even refusing to hit the button cause the attractive nurse wasnt on duty.

I posted his post the last time and feel it only right to post what he asked his wife(got married in the past 5 months to the woman he has been with for years)

I wont post what he asked to post on his passing.

Hopefully he can recover from such a cruel disease.

Ch4HDnews said he wanted to keep
his cancer, secret.
Chris Hoy stated his hand had been forced.

Ammi 17-02-2024 06:48 AM

…I hadn’t realised that his ‘hand had been forced’ in revealing his health atm, that’s very sad that it’s something that’s so personal to himself and family and close friends etc and he felt that he had no choice but to make it public, against his own wishes…and I do completely understand those wishes…’sharing’ is a choice and it can be something that others take an inspiration from, as King Charles’ intentions…but that also (…for me…)…gives it an importance, it gives the disease a power of being part of who you are…that’s how it can feel because it attaches itself to you….it also reads as though he didn’t want the media interest and intrusion for his family, so being famous brings another level…anyway, I wish him well and feel sad that he felt that his choices were taken from him…

A friend of mine on FB is a friend of Chris and his family and last night disclosed that he Chris got wind that someone he knew was leaking it to the press which forced his hand....
Some people will do anything for money...disgusting.

I would only want the people close to me to know, people come out of the woodwork that you haven't interacted with in years and I would hate that, I would tell you though Parm don't worry

it's pretty disgusting if someone was going to leak his illness before he was ready to share the news himself. My guess is he was seen at a hospital wing and someone tipped off the press

Horrible, he is probably just grappling with this himself never mind having to go public
