Talk TV to cease network broadcasting

Rupert Murdoch's Talk TV network is to cease broadcasting as a traditional television channel in the summer and move solely online.

The network launched in 2022 but has struggled to attract viewers on its linear platform.

In contrast, many videos clipped up from its shows perform well on YouTube.

It comes a month after its star presenter, Piers Morgan, also saw his show moved from its terrestrial weekday evening slot to being solely online.

Scott Taunton, Talk TV's president of broadcasting, said in a briefing to staff: "Two years ago, we would not have been brave enough to launch a channel without a linear presence.

"But audiences of all ages have moved fast and smartphones are now the primary device where news is consumed. We need to adapt to this as a priority."

He added: "We are therefore intending that Talk comes off linear television from early summer and our focus will be on streaming."

I gave it a look once
Never ever looked in on it again..
Horrible, bigoted and the worst presenters ever possible.
Ugh.

A win for GB News

Swan 05-03-2024 05:29 PM

How are news channels even still a thing?!!

arista 05-03-2024 05:37 PM

Yes once Piers Morgan
moved to You Tube only

It seemed they were doomed.

So online online only, soon

Piers will be absolutely fuming about being relegated to being a YouTuber :joker:.

What will we call him? PiersDiePie? Piersepticeye? Mr Pierst?

Sure
but they have better presenters

Ofcom fines do not help, of course

bots 05-03-2024 07:10 PM

that type of loss is not sustainable

user104658 05-03-2024 07:33 PM

Broadcast telly as a whole is dying, I said so years back 'n' nobody believed me .

the pandemic finally forced me to stop watching the news. It became obvious that they were just trying to frighten the entire population on a continuous basis. The only other time i've watched it since was on the day the queen died

MTVN 05-03-2024 08:10 PM

Depends where you are in the world really

TV news might not have much traction here anymore but it's still hugely important in a lot of countries

bots 05-03-2024 08:49 PM

it's very important in Russia, thats how they disseminate the propaganda to the masses

Crimson Dynamo 05-03-2024 09:16 PM

24 rolling news is dead in the water

BBC Media Show

Radio 4 Last Night,
debated how Talk TV: really was Peirs Morgan TV.

Once he moved to YouTube
they all had to follow.

Murdoch's Son
lost his patience with them.

They never even bothered to add subtitles
Like the better GBnewsHD, has 24/7 Subtitles

SkyNewsHD Turns off their subtitles from 2AM to 6AM

They also stated that SkyNews has lost a lot of money.

It is no wonder the BBC is using the World BBC News

broadcast from USA, and London.

It saves them from paying for expensive staff in the UK

Gusto Brunt 07-03-2024 06:01 AM

Talk Radio was GREAT.

Talk TV is absolute %$£& and getting worse.

Their presenters suck, from annoying bore Alex Phillips to an endless steam of MPs presenting shows when they SHOULD be working for their constituents.:fist:

The whole station has no structure. It's dire.

And GB News is going down the same route. Far too replay snippets of old shows because they can't show adverts on YouTube.:fist:

Very boring and repetative.:fist: And GB News is £80M in DEBT.

I've actually gone back to watching Sky News.

arista 07-03-2024 08:47 AM

You are so wrong.

In that debate on R4
they explained how GBnewsHD
now get's 3 million viewers
taking BBC and Sky News viewers.

Example Long newspaper reviews
this morning
with 2 good guests Norman Baker (LibDem)
and Renee Hoenderkamp (GP)

Al Jazeera very important in the middle east as well, which has been a positive force and no doubt a negative one too at times

Rolling news also still seems very influential in the US

Crimson Dynamo 07-03-2024 08:59 AM

Last year CNN averaged just 481,000 viewers, its worst showing since 2014.

In my opinion, GB News is going down the same route of inferior programming and the way they present the channel.

Talk TV went a bit mental when they moved Julia, Mike and Ian Collins to weird schedules and they have never recovered
