What do you guys think of AI technology?

And AI generated content for example? Are you for it? Against it? And if so, why? And do you believe that AI technology needs to be more regulated than it currently is?

For me personally, I'm fine with it to a point, but I am nervous that tech like AI girlfriends and AI workers (which will be the end game,) are going to stop people actually socializing and getting a meaningful relationship with a real girlfriend (in the AI girlfriends debacle,) and obviously if we go all dystopian for a second, if AI gets to a point where they're sentient and they decide to go rogue, plus they're running all of our services, how will Humanity be able to defend itself? Plus what if Governments start funding for AI warfare against enemy nations? I know I'm picking extreme scenarios out for the potential negative outcomes of AI technology, but because the advancements in this area are so new to most of us, anything could be possible in my eyes.

However I do like the idea of using an AI prompt to just say "create Sonic Adventure 3," and the basic groundwork for the Game would be there, in the future anyway once the technology is more advanced.

Basically I just want it kept to entertainment related stuff.

AI can provide benefits in a huge number of areas, but it does need to be regulated so that it works for us rather than against us

…I like people, I love people …I might not love every person but I’m a people person …so I’m not completely on board with AI because it feels as though that day is getting closer when it was said…one day, it’ll all be replaced with robots…so is that the actual end of the world…/…humanity then…

…I think that AI has its place and I think that it’s an amazing advancement of technology…but it feels as though the focus isn’t enough on advancing and progressing human qualities…that in progressing the technology in focus, we’re actually going backwards in human-ness….

Regardless of how "clever" or useful it may seem, it will always be Artificial Intelligence, rather Artificial Intelligence ... if that makes sense

We're not in any real danger of a SkyNet situation, because chances are no-one would be stupid enough to give full independence and agency to tech which can reproduce itself and/or cause harm.

I'm also skeptical about people's jobs being stolen en masse, because that's been a perceived danger since the days of the Ravelling Nancy. Maybe modern Luddites will be smashing AI machines  but while I don't doubt it could change things, I don't think it will be the Death of the Worker.

…that’s a great point actually that with human intelligence…?…it’s obviously very open to errors and flaws etc and illogicals…?…but when that happens, it also leaves open for a process of correction that we work through, dependant on the level of error…and that also leaves open for learning processes to happen and preventatives and problem solving to work through…which are surely very valuable skills and very essential skills to advance in ‘human’….anyway, AI will not be infallible and will make errors also …but when it does…?…I think it’ll be a lot more difficult to go through the process of correction../…amendment etc…

….’computer says no…’…is a frustration we’ve all experienced…

This for me too.

I can't think of anything I'd add to your post Ammi.

Scarily convincing AI

I am familiar Billy Joe so I was able to immediately realise that something was amiss BUT maybe someone else would be taken in by the clip !?

I'd be happier trying to improve human intelligence.

the Bing Search AI is quite funny, and kinda creative when i tell it to come up with fantasy casts and stories for possible new films

AI can potentially take power away from us and so it has to be regulated. That said, who does the regulating and how much?
We live in a world where we massively compete, especially for weapons. If China makes AI Super Soldiers because they can operate beyond normal human abilities, then every major country around the globe will work towards that same technology.

I watched a really interesting debate on this recently. Yuval Noah Harari who was one of the speakers said, as we moved towards the industrial revolution, many people warned how this would change the worl and not necessarily to a good change.
That's true, it changed the world for the better in so many ways and provided mass employment. Harari wen't on to say, what it also provided was the ability for the major governments to now invade and destroy other countries around the globe.

So no, I'm not looking forward to a time when we have AI that can think and make decisions for itself.

…yeah, that’s the thing isn’t it, really….that with all of the good, the bad and the ugly of AI etc and whatever we personally feel…falling behind with technology brings a whole new set of problems and vulnerabilities so we have to keep up with it, regardless..
