Road House 2024/Amazon Prime…

…a remake of the 1989 Patrick Swayze movie and with Jake Gyllenhaal and featuring Conor McGregor also…it was released yesterday on Amazon Prime, I think…I haven’t read any reviews for it yet but the trailer….

Niamh. 11-03-2024 03:47 PM

I've actually never watched the original

…do you still have Amazon Prime…?…the 1989 original and the current one are both on there and both free to watch…

Ammi 11-03-2024 03:56 PM

…from recollection, the Patrick Swayze original was a good watch…lots of kick ass…

FFS the original is (of course) a classic why have they remade it as incel porn.

Ammi 12-03-2024 01:01 PM

…why do you say that it would be that when it’s a remake…?…

Kazanne 12-03-2024 01:32 PM

I will always love the original,Sam Elliot was amazing and Patrick Swayze What can you say ?

Niamh. 24-03-2024 09:17 PM

Just watched it, Conor McGreger was seriously cringey but it was enjoyable I thought. I must watch the original now too though to compare

Ammi 25-03-2024 05:18 AM

…I’d forgotten that I’d made this thread so I’ll just copy and paste this from the what did you last watch thread…

…Road House 2024…..I didn’t hate it, I worried that I might but I didn’t…I started off really liking it, it felt like a very nostalgic movie and the setting location made me want to go to live in the Florida Keys…(…although I don’t think it was filmed there…)…and Jake Gyllenhaal gave the vibe that he was just having a great fun time…but it didn’t really quite gel with its storyline and characters, I didn’t feel…it was like bits all joined together but with, I don’t know…an awkward fit…it wasn’t smooth, it didn’t flow…it just lept and jumped from scene to scene and it felt as though it was missing any hmmmm….soul, I guess….anyways, though…I didn’t hate it and I did like some bits of it…the fight scenes were quite brutal but well co-ordinated and choreographed…I don’t know if Conor McGregor himself had any part in the fight choreography …the beginning was enjoyable, the ending was ok and the middle went off a bit…but I’d still say around 6/10 and not a bad way to spend a little while…

I don't have Prime atm unfortunately but I may have another way to watch it, I'll check later

The realistic version of this film would feature him getting stabbed in the belly on his second night as a bouncer, and spending the rest of the movie in hospital with a life-altering serious abdominal wound. Or dead :joker:.

To be fair Ammi I'm usually happy to suspend disbelief but I just find droopy Jake Gyllenhaal beating up gang after gang of coked-up MMA thugs a stretch too far :joker:. It's fine when they have super-powers or something but when it's just some "really well trained" bloke? It's too much! :joker:

I feel the same about the John Wick movies. Keanu as Neo effortlessly kung-fu-ing wave after wave of villains? That's fine he is after all The One. But Keanu as just... some ex hitman... who is super skilled buy just some guy? I can't buy it! He would be dead in 10 minutes!
