Eurovision Party London, one of the city’s biggest and most popular viewing parties, has been cancelled by the event organisers.

According to Variety, an announcement from Eurovision Party London said: “It is with a heavy heart that we have collectively decided not to screen the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest this year.

“We firmly believe that the Eurovision Song Contest has the power to bring people together across the world, and when its core values of inclusivity, equality and universality are upheld, it can be a genuine force for good.”

The participation of Israel in the contest was given as the reason for calling off the event.

UK entrant Olly Alexander signed an open letter accusing Israel of genocide and describing it as an "apartheid state".

The European Broadcasting Union EBU, which organises the contest, said in response that Eurovision is a “non-political” event, and is “not a contest between governments”.

You've just got to love cult speak.

Now they just need to add diversity to tick off the mantra.

Oh and I personally think that Olly spoke well with his opinion, which I respect.

The song contest is not about politics, our representative should have kept his mouth shut

clickbait

i thought this was about the London Pre-Party but it's more the one which shows the grand final in May

:fist: i already felt confused because i didn't read anything regarding this on any eurovision news site

the london pre-party is still going ahead yes, and no the Israel entrant isn't doing any of the pre-parties because of the lack of security measures at a pre-party compared to at the actual ESC shows in Malmo

Good Solution.

It's not supposed to be about politics but it always is - I don't think Israel should be excluded BECAUSE I don't think global politics should affect a song competition... but on the same note... how do they then justify excluding Russia last year.

Note that I'm not trying to draw a direct comparison between the two situations - just saying that either politics comes into the decision on who can enter, or it doesn't.

because Russia were already on thin ice and tbh it was the russian broadcaster who left the EBU entirely themselves

Belarus on the other hand got banned in 2021 after they tried sending that vile pro-dictator song by the pro-lukashenko folk group Galasy Z Mesta whose lyrics literally had meaning

Israel just had one tiny problem, in terms of that title ''October Rain'' mentioning the exact month of when they got attacked by Hamas, EBU just gave them the advice to change it into something lesser triggering, and KAN did, with a more pro-women empowerment message in Hurricane with a few subtle hebrew lyrics near the end, EBU also kinda has sympathies for the israeli broadcaster KAN whom were also under threat by Netanyahu of being abolished in favor of his ''extreme far right'' plans

the pro-palestine supporters should peacefully protest but not interrupt music shows, sports events etc, they are protesting at a train station in Malmo on the week of eurovision, with lots of police keeping that area under control, also likely no public audiences at carpet ceremony, but more news journalists, photographers and those to be extra screened out of anti-terrorism security measures, was already the case in 2016 those extra security measures btw, when they also got a threat by ISIL back then

I support him being allowed to express his opinion.

I mean if IGN are allowed to express their opinions, then Olly can definitely express his opinion is how I see it.

I mean you can't spell ignorant without IGN.

wish Israel had been kicked out by the EBU though, although technically EBU didn't kick out Russia either, the russian broadcaster left by themselves, they are no longer a EBU member, and you can't ban whats no longer a member
