I very much doubt this will be no surprise to anyone at all. Just one of a long list of things broken in this country.

they wont debate anything that they could ultimately be held libel for

joeysteele 18-05-2024 06:42 PM

Absolutely shocking.

They should be made to pay dearly for this negligence.
No messing.

Ammi 18-05-2024 07:06 PM

…I heard this on the radio on my way home today…just so incredibly heart-rending…I don’t know if there is any remiss or negligence, there is a full investigation and I hope that it completes with speed and if there were any breeches with safety repairs, I hope it’s all fully and appropriately addressed…

Hopefully the people who couldn't be bothered to fix the window get severely punished over this.

Zizu 19-05-2024 01:07 AM

Why didn’t the parents make the window safe or ensure the child couldn’t get near it ?

Maybe they did

But if the Council had fixed the Latch Lock
he could still be alive

I have to agree. Newham Council is bloody useless and always has been. But if I lived in a .place with a dodgy window catch I'd nail the window shut if that's what it took. The parents can hardly be absolved of any responsibility.

…horrendous, another child has fallen from a 15th floor flat in London …no details have been released yet regarding age or gender but it was another fatal fall…

Ammi 25-05-2024 07:55 AM

Officers scrambled to Hotspur Street, Kennington at 4.23pm on Friday to reports the victim had plunged from the upper floor.

An adult woman was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

The Metropolitan Police has cordoned off the area near Brixton and Vauxhall in Lambeth.

A police spokesman said: “Despite their efforts, the child was pronounced dead. The child’s family have been informed.

“At this very early stage, there is nothing to indicate that the incident is suspicious, however enquires are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

“Cordons are in place at the scene.”

Vauxhall MP Florence Eshalomi added: “Very sad to hear about the sad death of a young child who fell from a block of flats earlier this afternoon in Hotspur Street, SE11. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.”

London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 4.21pm today to reports of a person who had fallen from a building in Hotspur Street, SE11.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer.

“We also dispatched a trauma team from London's Air Ambulance which consisted of a paramedic and a doctor in a car.

“The first paramedic arrived in less than four minutes.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a child died at the scene.

“We treated a second patient and took her to hospital.”

Lambeth Council posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Incredibly sad news.

“A young child has died after falling from a block of flats in Kennington this afternoon.

“Our thoughts are with the child’s family at this tragic and painful time.”

It comes just over a week after five-year-old Aalim Ahmed died when he fell from his kitchen window on the 15th storey of an east London tower block.

Aalim Ahmed landed on a railing at the bottom of the residential block in Plaistow.

His body was identified by family and the cause of death has been listed as multiple injuries due to trauma from a “fall from height”.

Aalim died instantly and his father discovered his body shortly before 6am on May 16, Walthamstow Coroner’s Court heard on Friday.

The first case I believe that the parents needed to be more on guard about their child possibly going near the faulty window, as tragic as it is to say, but it's what I believe.

The second case sounds more odd.
