Hopes for season 2

ITV’s first series did take some steps in the right direction but was far from perfect. What improvements can BB make for season 2? .

kingston 18-05-2024 08:40 PM

The voice - Production have said they were looking to give this incarnation of BB more of a personality but in practice it’s giving the exact opposite. Current voice feels like a narrator for a children’s show and seems to lack any sense of authority no matter how hard they try. IDK call me a purist but BB isn’t a single entity but a personification of production as a whole, it lacks gender, and its personality will fluctuate depending on who is filling the role, the only thing that is consistent is that BB is always watching.

Pacing - ITV limiting the series to 6 weeks is what it is but it shouldn’t affect the pacing of the series as much as it has. There’s no other way to describe the BB20 cast other than bloated and for that fact the majority of the series felt like treading water. Either production need to exercise restraint in casting or given they have no restrictions at Garden Studios speed up eviction cycle allowing for a mid week eviction. Limiting the series to 6 weeks doesn’t mean the series shouldn’t have a natural beginning, middle, and end.

Identity - As I said before the ITV series made strides in the right direction but despite attempts to refresh some elements of the show it’s lacked an overarching theme or defining foundational element that’s made this era feel distinct. Think BB5/BB6/BB7 Evil/Twisted BB where each series sort of build on the foundation left by the previous series. Perhaps introducing have/have nots or introducing some other gamified element? Can’t help but feel like in the modern era the tasks should count for a bit more than just the shopping budget.

Tone - Bring back an element of fun and frivolity to the show. The current era takes itself WAY too seriously, whether it be throwing HM’s in jail for minor/accidental rule breaks or placing too much emphasis on conflict. I love a good row as much as the next person but constant bickering between the same people over the same things makes for a rather one dimensional experience. I’d also say that punishment should fit the crime and there are much more creative ways to punish HM’s than throwing them in cages for hours at a time.

I'll not say about the obvious, because it's something that I've mentioned so many times in the past, that I might end up driving other people insane if I bring it up again.:joker:

So I'll say these.

1. Don't coach the Housemates before going into the house on what they can and can't say, because it stops the Housemates from feeling natural, thus creating a bunch of boring Housemates.

2. Get the crowd reactions to feel more natural, rather than overly positive or negative (I'm thinking of Channel 5 on the latter.)

3. Stop casting so many people that love to look orange/tango'd, there's nothing wrong with some of them looking that way, but ITV and Ch5's eras really love that type of look, which does harm it's mass appeal.

4. Show Housemates good and bad sides, rather than the one-sided edits that BB like to go for with certain Housemates.

I think in many ways what you are asking for is completely impractical and a bit of an over-exaggeration of what goes in to producing the show in the modern era. That’s not to say there isn’t room for more authenticity and inclusive storytelling/editing but the days of pre-race row warts and all BB are gone.

If they can't make BB the way it's intended to be (people interacting in an unfiltered way) then BB should be left to rest imo, rather than have these bizarre takes on the series that just doesn't even feel like I'm even watching Big Brother.

I wouldn't mind some people like the Slovenian woman on BB personally.

i didn't finish our BB series this year, i mean my faves week by week getting evicted kinda killed it for me and especially when one botoxed up woman spent way too many weeks in that house :notimpressed: while she could've been gone week 1 but no one girl had to quit due to mental health issues in the first week

also majority of dutch viewers their taste for housemate faves is questionable :idc:

:hee:

Nicky91 30-07-2024 01:19 PM

hoping for an ''auction'' in one of the weeks

let the housemates spend the prize pot on a video message from home, a audio message from home, or a letter from home, or a dinner for two in the game room

or buy back everyone's suitcases with their personal belongings :hehe:

or buy an immunity pin, or a game ticket for a power of nomination game

My biggest thing is the length, it’s looking like we’re getting another 5 week, rushed series again.. i really need it to be atleast 7 weeks. I mean, even Love Island is 8 weeks long

Benjamin 01-08-2024 10:34 PM

I enjoyed the last season but hated how rushed evictions were. You barely got over one and the next housemate was out days later. Also, scrap those doubles too.

Ammi 02-08-2024 07:45 AM

…yeah the rushed eviction nights just took away a huge part of the vein of BB for me…and also the ‘shock/back door’ evictions like Matty’s…just came across more cruel than entertaining …I think, as much as I love AJ…when her eviction night outfits were often the best thing about the show, you know that the balance is not there at all…

Strictly Jake 02-08-2024 08:03 AM

Needs to be 7 or 8 weeks long

There needs to be a wide variety of ages. There was a couple of older ones last time but the majority were all the same sort of age and from the same sort of background

This is a strange one but it shouldnt be feeling too expensive, it's a social experiment so the house doesn't need to have a luxurious feel. When you think back to the golden era the houses felt pretty cheap with quirky aspects to them.

I think it should be over summer for definite, think how many iconic scenes in the past happened in the garden whilst the housemates sunbathed etc. last year they all just looked freezing.

I feel like they need to redefine the show. We loved it so much in the noughties because it was a fresh and unique format, and I think whilst not making extreme changes, there can be things done, to say, spice it up a bit. I'd love it if they took on the classic Australian format: 3 point nominations, friday night live (or in our case saturday night live to fill the void) and the three point twist.

Ooh I hate the point thing haha, but would be interesting to see how it would effect noms in the UK. But I do miss the live challenge (BB3 for rich/poor side was brilliant).

Mjc 09-08-2024 04:19 PM

I get they were trying to be ambitious and set a precedent, but the house was waaaay too big. Did they not learn from BB3 - 4 when they cut the garden size in half?

Not to the extent of BB5 but a smaller house would make it feel less empty/studio like.

And again, they need to make evictions more eventful! Bring back the underscores, the tension music, the dramatic countdown and actually *show* the HM leaving the house instead of a janky cut from living room to front door.

I'd also love if they dropped the CBeebies voice as someone else said!
