Hackney shooting: Child and three adults shot in 'drive-by' attack…

A child and three adults have been shot in an apparent “drive-by” attack incident outside a restaurant in Hackney.

Police were called at 9.20pm on Wednesday to reports of a shooting near the Evin restaurant Dalston.

Officers, including specialist firearms officers, and the London Ambulance Service attended the shooting on Kingsland High Street.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that three adults and a child were found with gunshot injuries at the scene. They were all taken to an east London hospital.

The child remains in a serious condition and police are waiting for further details of the other victims' conditions. No arrests have been made.

One witness said she was in Nandos when she heard five or six gunshots and saw a motorcyclist speeding away, according to the MailOnline .Antonia, who did not want to share her last name, said: “At first everyone didn't think it was [a shooting], it sounded like a car not working, but we were in Nando's and we just saw people running past.

“Everyone stepped out to look and we could see loads of people surrounding that shop.

“The police took ages to come and prior to that we saw the motorcyclist. He went around Nando's on that road.

“We kind of just wanted to get out of there.”

Nearby business owner Ayo Adesina told the Standard he was around 70 metres away on the busy road when he heard four gunshots.

The 40-year-old said: “I heard pat, pat, pat, pat… There was a big crowd of people. There was a woman kind of half sat up in a chair and there was a man that was on the floor. The paramedics were here pretty quickly.”

He added: “This is quite a busy high street and in the summer, as it starts to get warmer, people sit outside.

“It’s very wreckless, whoever done what they done, it’s very wreckless. That could have gone anywhere. There were loads of people sitting over there.

“It’s almost like it wasn’t a targeted thing. It’s almost indiscriminate. That’s very irresponsible.

“There are so many people walking about. You get families in there, I’ve eaten there before with my family. It’s a crazy thing. There would have been a lot of people who saw it.”

Tom Himpe told the Hackney Gazette he saw the street swarmed with police vehicles while walking to the shops.

He told the newspaper: "The police were shouting at everyone to get off the street. They seemed agitated.

"It's not the first time there's [been] an incident around Dalston Kingsland, but this was a drive-by shooting so that does feel of a different nature."

A large police cordon remained in place on the busy road on Thursday morning.

Spilt bottles and a half-drunk glass could be seen on tables outside the restaurant, with chairs laid out on the street. Two bikes were also propped up on tables outside.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Ward, said: "We know Londoners will be shocked by what has taken place tonight.

"Our thoughts go to all those affected.

"Fast moving enquiries are under way and we will update as soon as we can. If anyone has any information, please contact us."

A nine-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being shot by someone riding a motorbike in Dalston in Hackney, east London, on Wednesday night.

Three adults and the child were taken to hospital suffering from gunshot injuries following the incident close to a restaurant, the Metropolitan Police said.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward to help with their enquiries.

What we know

The Met Police said they were called to reports of a shooting near the Evin restaurant on Kingsland High Street in Dalston, Hackney at around 9.20pm on Wednesday night. Specialist firearms officers were in attendance, the force said.

Three men, aged 26, 37 and 42, were sitting outside a restaurant when they were shot by someone riding a motorbike, Detective Chief Superintendent James Conway said on Thursday. A nine-year-old girl was having dinner inside the restaurant when she was shot.

All four victims were taken to an hospital in east London, with the three men being described as in a “stable” condition. Conway said that one of the men faces “potentially life-changing injuries”.

The girl suffered a gunshot would and remains in a critical conditions. Police do not believe the three men and the girl were known to each other.

Police have recovered a motorbike in nearby Colvestone Crescent that they believe was used in the shooting. They say that it is now known that the bike was stolen. A ”significant police presence” remains in the area, which includes armed officers, Conway added.

Really sad story.

Ammi 30-05-2024 06:41 PM

…yeah, it’s an extraordinarily sad thing, Slim…I’m not sure if the three men were targeted/…it does appear to be very possible but the 9yr old girl wasn’t part of their group at all and wasn’t known to them…she was just having dinner with her family…

Most of these stories generally have some targets, but it's incredibly sad that others always get caught up as collateral damage, especially young people living their lives without a care in the world.

who is the MP for Hackney?

rusticgal 30-05-2024 06:48 PM

Awful….and tragic. Let’s hope she makes a full recovery.

It seems some people are unfamiliar with the rhetorical question.

unfamiliar with quite a few things...

The Slim Reaper 30-05-2024 07:23 PM

Rhetorical or not, it's not appropriate for a thread in which a 9yr old is fighting for her life. Maybe this isn't the thread to try and point score against a black, 70yr old woman, all over again.

Its not a memorial thread

talking about why this happens is more important than lighting candles and wringing hands

You didn't talk about why it happened - which I can predict from you, will have something to do with black fathers.

One thing I can guarantee, is that Diane Abbott had absolutely nothing to do with this crime.

Mystic Mock 30-05-2024 08:24 PM

Hopefully all four of the victims pull through.

Especially the 9 year old.

It's based on all of your other posts that involve black people and violent crimes. No clairvoyance required. Re-read your views in any of the knife crime threads if you need a refresher of your own opinions.

You were the one who brought up appropriate

Why would they have to hate them. Hate or love is irrelevant when using gifs.

I had a jimmy Saville avatar for a while, and no one said anything, but because I challenged LT, look at you trying to make something irrelevant, mean something else like a white damsel (apologies - don't know what the female equivalent of a white knight would be and saying white lady sounds more like Arista than anything else).

weelll again you seem to be able to ride to the rescue at times, so again not sure why that is not possible for me to do the same for whoever, it seems you hold yourself in very high esteem but everyone else must sing to your tune...nah...:pat:

That's your personal opinion of me, which is fine, but don't pretend it has anything to do with this hijacked discussion. There are some real truths I could point out if I wanted to be like you, but I don't.
