Angry Spanish locals hating British Tourists

https://video.dailymail.co.uk/previe...2788254086.jpg

[Thousands of protestors marched through
central Barcelona this evening,
waving placards and squirting holidaymakers
with water guns in the latest
expression of anger at
perceived overtourism in Spain.

Under the slogan 'Enough!
Let's put limits on tourism',
some 2,800 people - according to police - marched
along a waterfront district of Barcelona
to demand a new economic model that would
reduce the millions of tourists
that visit every year.

Protesters carried signs reading
'Barcelona is not for sale,' and,
'Tourists go home,' before some used
water guns on tourists eating outdoors
at restaurants in popular tourist hotspots.
Chants of 'Tourists out of our
neighbourhood' rang out as some stopped
in front of the entrances to hotels.]

Bet none of those protesting depend on Tourism for a living....

although they might have supplemented their time in Uni with a summer job in a tourist area....

Isn't the immigration/tourism arguments in any country normally a right wing viewpoint?

Tbf in this case it really is, considering how hostile they're being about it.

I always find it odd that the UK is considered soooo racist while Europe is deemed to be some beacon of hope.... France lurching to the Right seems to be totally accepted without comment? The Spanish have always been racist and still are very much so at football matches and in their attitude to some Europeans, the Poles can be racist, I had a conversation with a Polish colleague in the past who openly said she wanted to live next to white people, had a similar conversation with an ex Lithuatian neighbour, personally I find British people to be in the main welcoming....even take the Reform voters they haven't increased their voter pool since UKIP which got a similar number of votes which given the increase in boat crossings and how badly handled people arriving in the country illegally are has not translated into an increased votership

there isn't a single cabinet minister now that voted for brexit. Compare that to the last election

Oh some of the French are highly racist, I mean they vote their equivalent of the BNP into the top two placings, and that's ludicrous to me that anyone would vote for a party that extreme.

But tbf to all of the countries that have been mentioned in this thread, is there a European nation currently more racist than Italy?

I remember how some of them used to treat Mario Balotelli (a fellow Italian) just because of the colour of his skin.

Here's an article from 2019 https://edition.cnn.com/2019/11/04/f...spt/index.html

I don't think the traditional left/right dichotomy is as relevant now as it used to be

The issues that they are concerned about - wage suppression, lack of opportunities, housing shortages, antisocial behaviour, environmental impacts etc. - cut across the political spectrum

It's interesting to see that shift forming.

…it feels reasonable to have concerns about ‘over tourism’ in very high tourism areas…I know that heavy tourist areas across the world do and have always closed down completely for periods and maybe Spain locals are feeling that’s something some areas would benefit from…
