quite a host city battle

reminds me of the good times when we hosted it

the battle between Rotterdam - Maastricht  Maastricht btw hosting regio songfestival this year :D

Bern, would have the opening ceremony in Biel/Bienne (also the eurovillage located there)

Geneva would require a renovation of their proposed venue, which now more is for G24 summits

Basel is a too small venue for my liking whereas Zurich's Hallenstadion has so much experience hosting concerts and plenty of space for green room, stage, backstage media area etc

my wish for Israel

quite a fun ethno experimental group, also quite well known, one of their songs i heard in an episode of Law & Order: SVU btw

SVU is playing Israeli Music? I am surprised given Israel's current unpopularity within Hollywood Actors and writers.

an older episode, from season 15 i think

and i doubt that, otherwise Gal Gadot also wouldn't be asked that much for any upcoming projects, considering she is israeli

also hating on israeli musicians and actors is just plain childish and stupid, since they aren't to blame for what's happening in Gaza, only one man is (Netanyahu)

i still listen to Eden Golan's Hurricane, and if some want to cancel me, i don't care as i am not that shallow looking to be among the popular crowd

I personally agree with what you're saying, but ironically we know from this year's Eurovision that not everyone agrees with our opinion on this topic.

And Gal Gadot's an established name so she's protected from cancellation, unless she does something genuinely wrong from her own actions.

done, renewed it

my wishlist for some countries

Israel: Balkan Beat Box would be amazing as a solid ethno fun act

Estonia: Marten Manniste pls, he is estonian ed sheeran/lewis capaldi vibes and his work is in estonian extra plus

United Kingdom: Mimi Webb pls, she is phenomenal, has same potential with the right song like Sam Ryder due to the tiktok fanbase

Germany: Santiano!!!!! i mean why not take a risk with a bigger name, and what have they got to lose, already 11 times album no.1's in the charts

Norway: Kygo & Vin Diesel pls

Sweden: Klara Hammarstrom or Froken Snusk

Albania: time to give Arilena Ara her chance after being robbed of her chance to shine in 2020 due to covid pandemic

Georgia: long overdue but Dato Khujadze a funky ethno boppity bop in georgian pls

San Marino: time for Danny Gokey to really apply and save this microstate, him or Nick Fradiani, some american idol alumni would do them good

Nicky91 02-09-2024 12:43 PM

out of the possible returning countries

most likely me thinks are

North Macedonia, Monaco

Romania not sure, depends on if they have found enough artists interested in representing them, and if they have enough budget, or artists who can fund their own participation

Bulgaria, nope not returning for now i guess

Hungary and Turkiye are very unlikely under their current regimes

The host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 has been chosen as Switzerland prepare to welcome Eurovision next year.

Following singer Nemo's victory earlier this year with The Code at Malmö, Sweden, it was confirmed that Eurovision would indeed be heading to Switzerland next year.

Now, it's been confirmed that the Swiss host city will be Basel, the country's third-largest city.

Eurovision itself will take place in St. Jacobshalle, an area just outside of Basel, with a capacity of 12,400.

Timings have also been confirmed in terms of the two 2025 semi-finals and the Grand Final itself.

The two Eurovision 2025 semi-finals will take place on Tuesday 13 May and Thursday 15 May 2025, with the Grand Final on Saturday May 17.

“The EBU is thrilled that Basel has been selected as the Host City for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The Contest was born in Switzerland in Lugano back in 1956 and it’s great to be bringing it back to its birthplace almost 70 years later,” said Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest.

“Basel's strategic location at the crossroads of Europe makes it the ideal setting for an event that celebrates the power of music to connect people across borders,” Österdahl continued. “Following Contests in the Italian and French speaking parts of the country in 1956 and 1989 we’re also excited to bring the Eurovision Song Contest to German Switzerland for the very first time.”

Switzerland's victory with Nemo in 2024 was the third time the country won Eurovision; Switzerland were actually the winners of the first ever Eurovision in 1956 with Lys Assia's Refrain and again in 1988 with none other than Celine Dion (!) with Ne partez pas sans moi.
