Home office to investigate election intimidation and harassment
Yvette Cooper, the home secretary, has said she will chair a meeting of the government’s Defending Democracy taskforce in response to an “alarming rise” in harassment and abuse towards candidates.
Ms Cooper said: “Political violence, intimidation and harassment have no place in our democracy. “The recent General Election campaign demonstrated some of the great strengths of our democratic traditions, including a smooth and peaceful transition of power from one party to another, but during this campaign we also saw an alarming rise in intimidation, harassment and abuse towards candidates, campaigners and volunteers from all parties which simply cannot be tolerated. https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/home-offi...yvette-cooper/ Good |

 |
How widespread was the harassment of candidates? Was it especially aimed at women?

However, i think there was heightened temperature across the board due to the influence of reform, and the labour distaste for 14 years of tory government. Also, the tories accused an opposition candidate of pretending to be blind when there was ample evidence of it very much being true that they were blind It all adds up to nasty politics that needs to be dampened down |
I wonder if Farage will be invited to talk about the abuse he got?
(I've not been following so as far as I know that one milkshake incident could have been all he faced, I dunno. Probably not.) |
