Robert Downey Jr. to play Marvel Villian "Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars" Film
[Robert Downey Jr. is back in the
Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this time he's switching from hero to villain. At San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday (Jul 27) Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that Downey, 59, will play the infamous villain Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers movies Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Feige also revealed that directors Anthony and Joe Russo will return to direct Doomsday. The Russo brothers shared that only "the greatest actor in the world" could portray Doctor Doom and hence they have chosen Downey for the role. Downey's entrance on stage, flanked by actors in masks and robes, electrified the crowd. "New mask, same task," he said. "What did I tell ya? I like playing complicated characters."] https://cdn.wionews.com/sites/defaul...pg?imwidth=256 https://www.wionews.com/entertainmen...or-doom-744873 |

now announcing it. |
we don't need that washed up b actor though
time for new talent maybe? instead of recycling the same old actors |
How dull and it's pretty desperate.
There's no emotional stakes to any of this. They kill a character and bring him back from another universe. It's hollow. |

How many of those insipid Marvel movies have been about a "Multiverse" in some way? Maybe he's hitched a ride with one of the Spiders and is a Tony Stark from another Earth?
I know nothing about Marvel Comics (it's all about DC babyyy) but I don't know if one of the Dr Dooms has been Tony Stark? |

Hence why Barbie, Oppenheimer, Mario, John Wick 4, and Creed III, and Scream V & VI all had their own personal breakouts over the last couple of years at the Cinemas. I like Superhero Movies, in particular I can't wait for the Blade Movie to come out from Marvel's catalogue. But I am glad that other types of Movies are finally starting to come out again. |
…super hero movies have such visually impressive scenes/effects so I guess that they’ve been quite overdone as well to keep those cinema audiences as they’re enhanced by a cinema watch/visually and with sound etc…?… cinema’s are so costly, I can’t imagine so much…someone going to see a drama or comedy or something but they may do with a visual and sound ‘spectacular’ super hero movie …?…
…I like Robert Downey Junior, he’s a great actor…I’d like to see him move away from this type of role and back into more intense drama roles, which I think he excels in… |
He’s so in love with himself
Ugh |
I will maintain that Marvel phases 1 - 3 (Iron Man 1 up until Avengers: Endgame) is a piece of cinematic history that is entirely unique and very very much worthwhile. An interwoven, interconnected cinematic universe on that scale has never happened before, and likely never will again, and though moment-to-moment quality varies there's also some genuinely excellent cinema in there too.
But... It feels like a complete narrative. 20+ movies in that run, it's absolutely HUGE, but it has a clear beginning (the character origin movies), middle (the Avengers era and build up) and end (Infinity war/Endgame and the death of Iron Man). Spider-man movies as a standalone franchise - even with cameos from other MCU characters - could have continued (e.g. Doctor Strange in No Way Home). The rest of it just feels tacked on. It feels like extra, unnecessary filler content. But Disney greed meant they had to keep putting out content. IMO it was a terrible decision, they should have shelved EVERYTHING after Endgame for 5 - 10 years and then started a new X-Men series. Hype would have been huge. As it is, people are fatigued. Again, you could have had guest appearances from old MCU characters in X-Men films, but make it a whole fresh start with a lengthy break. |
i just don't think it's worth looking at any of it that deeply. It's all based on comics fgs
If it's an entertaining film it will get a thumbs up from me, if it's not, i will just wait till the next one rolls along |

But, I think it'll lead into the introduction of the "main" Doom, and RDJ returning as Iron Man for the 2nd Avengers in this phase. Maybe even RDJ's Iron Man killing off RDJ's Doom variant. |
Is he going to replace the guy who had some dodgy sexual offences?

It makes Ant Man 3 a weird irrelevance in the overall storyline, but "Loki" Season 2 is what makes it possible in terms of "in-universe logic" -- with Loki becoming the sort of "guardian of the timeline" at the end of that. Incidentally, Loki S2 is objectively a very well made piece of telly and one of the "post Endgame" MCU things well worth watching simply on its own merits. Well shot, well scripted, well paced, great actors. Slightly unusual for Disney+ :joker:. |
