What are your thoughts on our new PM?

I personally don't think he's listening to people's concerns over unchecked immigration. Sunak did say he was going to destroy the UK and he was spot on.

Crimson Dynamo 02-08-2024 05:36 PM

I genuinely despair about him already

Absolutely everything that is wrong with this country rolled up into one spineless, leftist wretch

He's putting me off Labour for life.
I can't believe it, but bring back the Tories.

GoldHeart 02-08-2024 05:44 PM

I'm just glad I didn't vote for him...... let's put it that way  .

But I didn't vote for anyone & I don't support any party anymore , but Labour is stumbling into a mess .

I actually predicted crime would go up and that the labour cabinet would turn on eachother.

It’s been 3 weeks and besides the continued ban on puberty blockers, he’s done a fantastic job actually being a grown up and getting things done, it’s completely unfair and unrealistic to expect him to fix a problem that has been nearly 2 decades in the making in less than a month, it’s ludicrous

GiRTh 02-08-2024 05:47 PM

Not much so far. For their first act to be going after Pension credits seems a misstep to me.

Does he think, due to the landslide, he has so much political capital that he can go after pensioners then he's about to find out how the public can turn on him.

He's so useless he makes Boris looks competent

It’s sad to see you go down this route of hatred of foreigners and non white people

What are you talking about :facepalm: .

joeysteele 02-08-2024 05:50 PM

I'm actually impressed by the change of tone and how he began his Premiership.

HOWEVER, I'm not happy at the policy on pensioners winter fuel payment.
My view will change dramatically if that stays in place.

That though is down to the Chancellor.
It's rare that Prime Ministers get their way over Chancellors.
There's always been conflicts between PMs and Chancellors across all governments.
Although I hope he will listen to Party and public on that policy and get a change to it

Even the only Con Mayor said he is listening more than Sunak and those before him ever did.

It's not fair to judge him on 4 weeks in and I won't.
I like a fair bit of what he's said up to now.
He was never my choice of leader but he's miles ahead of the last 3 PMs before him for sure.

Actually the Tories banned that and rightly so as it was being prescribed to children , don't worry I'm sure Starmer will cave in and reverse it :bored: .

I forgot you support hacking children with mental health issues to bits and putting them on medication for life

thankfully Starmer and the scientific community do not

smudgie 02-08-2024 06:03 PM

I didn’t vote for Labour (obviously).
But how any incoming government can be blamed for how the public are behaving after only a month in power is beyond me.
Big mistake in stopping the fuel payment for pensioners, disabled and long time sick.
Waiting in anticipation for what does or doesn’t come next.

I don't hate him. I just think he's a terrible PM

I agree. But it's not a good start. Also he didn't address the knife crime in his speech.

I think Reeves made a big mistake settling the junior doctors dispute. She has let a genie out of the bottle that can't be put back

He seems to be reversing everything the Tories did.

MTVN 02-08-2024 06:08 PM

The election was literally 4 weeks ago. There won't be any substantive changes for better or for worse for weeks. And realistically many policies take years to even be implemented never mind see results.

The only thing we can judge on so far is the tone, and I think they're generally getting that right so far

And I bet GPs will also get a raise. I can see it.
