Has anyone else felt like their taste in things have changed recently?
I'm asking because I really feel since about 2021, I have certainly shifted my taste a fair bit.
For some examples. - I am less likely to be playing a Video Game nowadays than say 4 or 5 years ago, where I was pretty much a stereotype. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy Video Games in general, but I don't live and breathe it like I used to. - I am liking my Movies more than I used to, don't get me wrong I'm still not a Movie Buff (there's nothing wrong with being a Movie Buff imo) but I have probably watched more of them in the last year than I have over the last 8 years prior. I watched The Last Witch Hunter last night and really enjoyed it for the most part. - I actually use Twitter and Facebook nowadays, which even as recent as a couple of years ago I would've laughed at you if you were to tell me that I would be actively using either of them. - My Music taste is becoming more varied than just liking Rock Music and all of it's subgenres.:worry: In fact I really have just become a Music addict lately.:joker: - I can handle Romance in fiction more than I ever have previously, younger me would be really ashamed of current me on that front, especially even liking certain Romances in fiction.:omgno: - I'm more casual with Animation works in general nowadays, I'm only watching two of them at the moment (which is a low number for me) and I do still enjoy some of them, but again I was a real Otaku kind of guy a few years ago. - I probably have more interest in Politics now than I ever have throughout my life, I actively go out of my way to actually talk about it, which again younger me would look at current me in disgust for that. - Watching Football matches and not enjoying them very much unless it's Birmingham City playing, I currently probably find Women's Tennis and Cricket more fun to follow nowadays than the Football in general. Which again that just would not have fathomable a couple of years ago. But that's just me. Do you guys feel like your interests have started to change recently, and if so what is it? |
….hmmmm, not really I don’t think…what I watch series or movies etc tends to often be linked to time as well…atm, I don’t have a lot of time to invest in a series for instance…so I’m more drawn to that short term investment of a movie…when I have more TV time, I love to binge a really excellent series……but no, my interests etc are generally consistent but quite varied also…

Over the last year or so I was watching alot more movies , which I want to get back into the habit of doing.... it's just always disappointing when I waste time on one that turns out to be absolutely dreadful.

You're getting old, Mock :joker:.
For me personally my TV watching has declined in recent years is the only thing I would say - but sadly, I don't think that's so much because of a change in interests, as a decline in the quality of shows. I tend to just rewatch old stuff that was actually good :umm2:. I'm still excited for occasional series etc that come out - but the trend now is for shows to release like 8 episodes every 2 years that you can binge over the space of 2 or 3 days. We used to have a tonne of "regular" shows we watched and kept up with. Now there's really nothing, other than the weeks where a new season of something drops. As a result we tend to watch more movies (weekends) and trashy reality shows like Love Is Blind / Too Hot To Handle on week nights. |

You're growing your garden. This is healthy and is indicative of personal growth. The mind has a way of knowing what it needs to "know" to spread it wings so to speak, and if you're a curious type, then it's even more normal your interest will be persuaded towards other things to keep yourself sharp and your curiosity satisfied... when we're relaxing, undistracted or sleeping is when our brain does a lot of the heavy lifting it can't do when it's focused on tasks... that's why creativity is more easily found then, because it's actively taking otherwise randomly obtained information and making stronger connections...
I've noticed the same. Of recent I noticed media doesn't have the same impact on me now as far as storytelling. I see the overall plot too much, how derivative most of it is and so I have a harder time now enjoying TV shows and have become much pickier as a result... I used enjoy a good cheap drama... it's kinda sad actually. |
No change, I still love pussy

I personally miss older TV Shows too, they had lower production values, but they did have better episode counts which in general lead to better writing. |

What i have found over the years is that there are core interests that tend to stay with you all your days. Medium interests that are fulfilling and can last a number of years, and then instant gratification moments that can come from anywhere that bring a sugar rush but can be fairly short lived. It's just life

Not necessarily my tastes themselves, but my consumption - since long covid my attention span has been fried, and if I'm watching a film I have to watch it in chunks, or it just doesn't register in my brain. Books, if it's an unfamiliar one, I'm more likely to go audiobook than physical.
