What makes you 'sad'?

I'm not talking emotionally sad. I mean 'sad' in a social sense, if you get me.

I'm currently watching an old episode of Some Mothers Do Have 'Em with Michael Crawford as Frank Spencer, and it's quite amusing. Now that's more than a little 'sad' but hey ho.

What makes you 'sad' or are you not at all?

I collect VHS tapes and do my best at weekends to relive those times going to the video shop, renting a film, and buying popcorn and sweets to munch on while watching. It's a huge comfort. It's sad, but i like it, so meh. Is what it is

Aah, I think that's so lovely and nostalgic though. You indulge, it's one of life's little pleasures.

In a silly way, watching a VHS on an old CRT really does take you back to those (usually) unappreciated little moments. But i just love VHS, love collecting old tapes/artwork. There's a few of us out there, not many, but a few

What's your fave films you have on VHS? Or is it too hard to narrow down?

That's actually pretty cool.

It’s sound daft but I find it really difficult to throw teddys away. I look at them and just feel so guilty when I go to chuck them in the bin that I actually decide to give them to a charity instead because I feel like I’ve managed to give them a second chance .

Earlier this morning my mum had this tiny little sausage dog ornament plant that she got from the pound shop but decided she no longer wanted it. She left it by the bin and I looked at it and it’s little smile that looked back at me made me feel so guilty that I decided to take it to work and leave it as a little ornament for the office.

Everyone in work has asked where the sausage dog has come from and I haven’t told them it was me that brought it in yet. I’m gonna keep the mystery going for a while

Dogeatdog 01-10-2024 09:47 PM

I hope that’s the kind of sad you’re referring to cos otherwise I’ve made myself look a right tit lol.

The Slim Reaper 01-10-2024 09:49 PM

Anyone else think that Ded has made himself look like a right tit? :smug:

Beso 01-10-2024 09:49 PM

I've also felt guilt at accidentally throwing a favourite childhood teddy away, like it was a sentient being that would be feeling betrayed :skull:

GoldHeart 01-10-2024 11:16 PM

I don't think it's sad keeping old teddy bears , it's your childhood and has memories surely? . If it gets to the point where your house & rooms are so full of cuddly toys,it resembles an amusement arcade or nursery....then maybe you might have to part with a few .

But that's more to do with if it becomes a inconvenience to keep them all ....ie taking up too much space or something, guess it depends on how much room you have  .

Thanks Kate.:)

I think that having hobbies and interests are a good thing in general, but I probably should calm down on one or two of them.:joker:

….…I don’t think that’s a ‘sad’ thing to do at all…your week days are obviously filled with the here and now of working and earning and far removed from ‘nostalgia’….so to contrast that a bit, your collection draws you toward that time and those feelings of no responsibility and just complete chilling in a way that we don’t do so much as adults…?…childhood and adulthood are like two complete separate times in our lives, aren’t they…and you’re combining and uniting them both for a feel good and that makes complete sense…happy VHS watching……

…teddys and ‘security blanket’ toys are like an attachment to a parent or loved one like a family pet…so it feels a bit like a rejection to throw away something so loved and so meaningful…recycling to charity and then hopefully that teddy will find its way to a new owner who it can continue its journey of comfort with is a great way…it’s like a cuddle rehoming centre……
