Predictably boring age groups, I wanted BB to mix it up...and add more older people.

I agree with this... is it just me or? I think the casting team need to be re-educated on the definition of someone being older.. people in their 30s aren’t old, I was hoping we would of had some more people in their 40s, 60s and 70s to mix it up a bit.

38 isn’t even that old lol

Cherie 07-10-2024 08:38 AM

I think their thinking is old fans will stick with it because it was off air for so long, and they are trying to bring along a new generation of fans, that said with 16 hms there could have been at least 4 over 50s

DanielM787 07-10-2024 08:39 AM

Is it just me or.. they always seem to cast the celebrity series well with diversity.. and it’s good because we have older housemates, but it always seems to be when it comes to the civilian they struggle to add more than one older person? It leads me to believe a lot of older people might not be interested in doing it . but for the older ones that do, I don’t see what their problem is

Crimson Dynamo 07-10-2024 09:28 AM

That is about the average age of the West Ham football team to give a comparision

Observations of an oldie

I fit into the old bastard category.
I have auditioned three times and gone all the way to the wire twice.
If you get that far you only find out 2 weeks before launch that you're not on.
If they didn't want old bastards, It seems odd that they audition all the way through to the end.
To be frank, looking at the motley crew last year and the motley crew this year, I think I'm probably glad that I didn't get chosen.

yeah I was thinking that as well, I immediately though of Louis Walsh who was one of the better HMs in the Celeb series, I think they are trying to appeal to a new audience which is fair enough but they need to keep the die hards older audience as well will see how it goes

How many rounds of audition did you go through to get to that stage?

MTVN 07-10-2024 09:47 AM

Apparently it's the fourth oldest house on average so it's not like previous series have had loads of older housemates

Think like Cherie said they are trying to capture the 18-30 viewer demographic because they're the ones who will boost any viral moments. Also tbh most older people have the sense not to go in and they generally have too many commitments to just put their life on hold for a couple of months. It's easier for the celebs who are only doing a couple of weeks and getting paid a fortune

I cannot tell you what happens at audition because we sign an NDA.
You make an application.
There is a lengthy zoom call.
You go for audition.
You are then asked to stay or not for a further “interrogation” (audition).
You have to fill in reams of paperwork.
You are then told that you will hear or not.
The email arrives two weeks before launch night.
If you get on, I believe you get a telephone call. If you don’t, you get an email which also encourages you to apply again next year.

oh thats interesting

I feel like they're casting young people so they can work on TV or as influences afterwards which would be harder with an older person. I prefer when there's a more diverse age range though.

Yep... pathetic :bored: , neither of those age groups are even that old. Plus it's weird how we only have 1 person in their 50's....and then it's jumped back to a few 30 something year olds. They haven't even put in a few 40 year olds .

Plus When was the last time we had housemates in their 60's, or a 70 year old. I think plenty of fit able bodied older contestants would take part, but BB keeps rejecting them.

bots 07-10-2024 12:15 PM

I don't care what age the hm's are, i just want them to be entertaining. I actually rated Sharon and Louis among the worst hm's the show ever had

Also, the older hm's last season were the worst of that years hm's

I will try one more time. It’s an interesting day out and all part of life’s experience.
Anybody else near my age? Not even anybody remotely. I was probably 30 years older than the oldest. I have to tell you I don’t look that old (so people tell me).
When I mentioned my age, there was a sharp intake of breath from everybody else.
I must admit, the I was surprised not to be chosen on both occasions because they were extremely keen. It may have come down to the toss of the coin but I am surprised how young they are this year. Half of them look like rejects from Love Island.

Crimson Dynamo 07-10-2024 12:45 PM

Its not so much age but education..
