What sad case is campaigning for this change?:laugh3:

Pathetic doesn't even begin to describe this.

Livia 01-11-2024 01:17 PM

Jezuz Christ.. who's going to fight our wars in the future??

joeysteele 01-11-2024 01:46 PM

Nicky91 01-11-2024 01:48 PM

Realistically has any child sung this at all since about 1993.

Robots, drones and accountants. Like our current wars. I would think.

Alf 01-11-2024 04:20 PM

And what's the punishment if they do sing it?

Everyone on front lines in the recent past and currently will be very relieved to hear that.

MTVN 01-11-2024 06:18 PM

Sounds offensive to pirates tbh

Well it's not random conscripted children/young adults, is it, and realistically isn't going to be again. It's going to be tech and professional soldiers. If the argument is that there will be fewer people who want to become professional soldiers, or that they'll be less effective soldiers than previous generations, because they didn't sing certain children's songs... well, that's another debate but I can't see much of a strong argument behind it.

"That mission wouldn't have failed, goddamnitt, if only Jim had sung about drunken sailors instead of angry pirates!!"

Potentially engage brain before posting Mock - we're talking about primary school children and you don't want the old bill coming round to rifle through your hard drive.

The lyrics are woke mind virus nightmare!

What will we do with a drunken sailor?
What will we do with a drunken sailor?
What will we do with a drunken sailor?
Early in the morning!
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Early in the morning!
Shave his belly with a rusty razor
Shave his belly with a rusty razor
Shave his belly with a rusty razor
Early in the morning!
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Early in the morning!
Put him in a long boat till his sober
Put him in a long boat till his sober
Put him in a long boat till his sober
Early in the morning!
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Early in the morning!
Stick him in a scupper with a hosepipe bottom
Stick him in a scupper with a hosepipe bottom
Stick him in a scupper with a hosepipe bottom
Early in the morning!
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Early in the morning!
Put him in the bed with the captains daughter
Put him in the bed with the captains daughter
Put him in the bed with the captains daughter
Early in the morning!
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Early in the morning!
That's what we do with a drunken sailor
That's what we do with a drunken sailor
That's what we do with a drunken sailor
Early in the morning!
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Early in the morning!
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Early in the morning!

What the hell are you rambling about?

The fairly obvious fact that changing a children's song lyric from drunken sailor to angry pirates is not going to result in a generation of soft-soldiers who can't fight wars :joker:.

Jessica. 04-11-2024 12:06 PM

What's the harm in changing it to something more appropriate and relatable to kids? Using the word "ban" is an exaggeration too, obviously they just want to encourage the use of an alternative version, nobody is enforcing a full on ban of the words to a children's song.

Beso 04-11-2024 12:15 PM

Hosepipe bottom sounds like one of those labels Ali has for everything.

user104658 04-11-2024 12:37 PM

I think we should change it to "What shall we do with the whinging boomer" and watch an implosion

But they sure are whinging about it being changed. And it would be funny.

Wasn't there a similar "incident" a few years ago with another kid's song?

Well that's exactly what's happening in a major European war right now

You're such a literalist when it suits you.
