Advance notification of a Music based game I'm going to run. Either in January or Feb

So here's the details. I'm advertising it well in advance but there's no rush as yet for anyone to sign up, although you can express interest if you wish. It'll be in either January or February to accommodate Tibb Strictly ending and give a little break before it starts.

If it's in January it'll be called January Jukebox and if it's in February it'll be called Valentine's Musical Massacre. I'll add a poll to this thread shortly to gauge which people prefer the sound of?

Let me tell you a little more.

Up to a maximum of 20 contestants and 2 judges will be required.

You will anonymously play as characters, in up to 10 pairs, yes pairs! I have a list of character names which I'll add in a bit. You must apply as pairs, so grab your Tibb bestie to apply with you. I've generated a list of pop star names from a randomised on Google. They will be male female paired names but you don't have to apply in male female pairs, that won't matter.

Allocation will be by choice from the list on a first come first served basis once I officially open applications. I'll reveal which names get taken as the applications come in. Any questions about that?

All contestants will remain in the game till the end. No eliminations. There'll be a running scoreboard as per the 2 judges scores for each round.

Points allocation by the judges will be explained later.
.

Hang on... I'll be back shortly. Just got to do something....

Ok I'm back...

January Jukebox option. You will in your pairs submit a chosen song that was in the charts in January in set decades. There will be 10 rounds. Some decades will feature more than once but there's plenty of choice.

Valentine's Musical Massacre option. You will in your pairs submit songs on the theme of love from set decades again. There's tons of choice for this.

I'll now add the poll and shortly the character names and how the 2 judges will score each round. Remember the emphasis is on anonymity. Judges won't know who is each pair of characters.

I think I've covered everything? Feel free to ask anything at all I may have overlooked?

Thank you.

Sounds fun. January Jukebox for me, not a fan of love songs :joker:

Thank you. With regards to the Valentine's option there's tons of scope, just to expand a little further. Doesn't have to be soppy love songs, can be anything to do with love. I'll give a couple of examples. Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It, or Girls Aloud - Love Machine. The song title doesn't have to contain love either for the record. Such as Bad Medicine by Bon Jovi?

Is that a better explanation? Just wanted to clarify.

I should've explained it in more depth.

Having to search for Januaries over decades seems a lot of work, and less fun.

You could just go and look at the charts from that decade

How many songs have been in the charts during the month of January, for a whole decade? Lots of great music doesn't even chart.

I was just thinking of potential issues that could crop up and make the game less fun in the long run.

I did a little research by googling top 40 songs from January in a few different years. There was a sizeable amount of choice it seemed? It only took a few minutes. Does that sound reasonable.

It's up to you to think about what might or not be reasonable as it's your game, but if you've had a look and decided it's fine, then that's completely cool with me. I was trying to help, not be a dick.

Oh hey. I wasn't saying you were being a dick? I'm surprised you have taken that from it.

January Jukebox has such a good ring to it

I didn't think that's what you were saying, but you suggested a game and I said there was a potential issue. I was just trying to clarify that I wasn't hating on the game.

Ok. I was concerned because I was only explaining I think it is easy to find songs having tried it out. I didn't think you were hating on the game in the slightest.

It looks a little more likely we'll be playing in February anyway as Jake's game will only finish mid January and I want a break before mine starts ideally.

Kate! 07-01-2025 03:37 PM

Right, I'm going ahead with this.

I'll create a new thread shortly with a fresh OP and the game will be in February if that's OK with everyone?
